-lil September Welcomes Students September 9 ushered in the new school year at Henderson State College. The confusion of registration gave students their first taste of col- lege life. Tradition prevailed as Miss Amy Jean Greene opened the first freshman assembly with The Pine Tree Speech. The first week of classes, which began September l2, climaxed with a dance honoring the freshmen. New students ex- perienced that 'AOld Reddie Spirit at the first pep rally for the 1968-69 school year. Excitement filled the air as the Henderson Reddies opened the football season in a game against Mississippi State College in the newly completed stadium. Students celebrated the first Reddie victory with a dance in the Day Armory featuring the Sunday Funnies. Freshmen took part in student govern- ment as they elected class officers and freshmen cheerleaders. The Danish Gym Team provided Henderson and Ouachita students with their first cultural entertainment of the year. Student Sen- ate elections brought to a close the month of Sep- tember and set the pattern of things to come.

Many hours had been spent by con- scientious students working out the perfect schedule, only to be met at the door of many sections by a sign reading 'Class Closed' Several of these prob- lems were smoothed over by the help of volunteer Heart and Key members stationed where they could be reached by bewildered students.
