Qtr The Art Division has several func- tions, the chief of which is to provide the students majoring in elementary education with the training necessary to enable them to direct a creative art program in the elementary classroom. This training consists of an investiga- tion of developmental stages in creative activity and student par- ticipation or experimental use of materials and techniques which are desirable for the different ele- mentary grade levels. The Art Division also offers a maior in art to those students working for the Bachelor of Arts degree. In this category of courses the student will find a number of courses which develop creative self expression. Also, art courses may be taken to fill in as elective courses. Advisors stand ready to help students at any time. Students learn by par- ticipating in panel dis- cussions. general Qlullege ... The General College and its faculty are charged with the orien- tation, guidance, and basic studies of students during the first two years of college. The purpose is to provide a student with a Gen- eral Education which may in turn be describ- ed as that non-voca- tional, unspecialized education possessed by the well-informed per- son in our society. The Basic Course of the Gen- eral College is under- taken in eight parts which are arranged to emphasize primary skills first and then to present certain funda- mental understandings in a fashion which will increase the breadth of outlook ofa student and prepare him to continue in a more satisfactory way his education and his life. This program, the oldest of its kind in the state, is operated to keep its studies under continuous revision. ln this way each group of students leaves behind an improved Basic Course for those who are yet to come. The world's greatest music is one of the subiects of study in the Humanities.

Through the basic courses all students are given a general understanding of the biological principles. Some courses are designed to give students field experiences, and thus a better appreciation of the envi- ronment. In other courses considerable laboratory work is given with the de- velopment of certain techniques. In still others more attention is given to the development and the application of biological principles. The Division of Biological Sciences tries to give to all students a general cultural background for biological phe- nomena. lt gives to prospective teach- ers of science a basic biological under- standing. To pre-medical, pre-dental, and similar students it gives the neces- sary prerequisites.
