The world must be returned to its natu- status and we, you and I, are the ones to under- take the task. Like the Master Man, swmnon your initiative and plunge forward to leave the world better than you found it. At this point, our comparison may become a con trast The passage says that the Master Man 'has never lacked appreciation of the earth's beauty nor failed to appreciate it How many times have you taken for granted the innumerable beauties of nature? We, as a whole, do not appreciate what nature has placed before us Only those who through some affliction have been deprived of these phenomena appreciate fully their value Continuing the comparison, to live up to the qualifications we must look for the best in others and give the best we have All too frequently, we fail to do this It is not always easy but attempts are never overlooked We wish people to see our talents just as they wish us to see theirs The last standard for us to meet to qualify as Master Men is to make our individual life an "inspi ration and our memory a "bened1ct1on Throughout our school years we have set examples and followed those set for us Our memories are a benedictlon to the years we hope we have spent well In closing, I would like to quote the entire, short passage I have used as a theme It, too, is entitled "THE MASTER MAN' 'He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of intelligent men, the trust of pure women and the love of little children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his task, who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul, who has never lacked appreciation of the earth's beauty nor failed to appreciate it, who has looked for the best in others and given the best he had, whose life was an inspiration, whose memory is a benediction can only add, Amen We are about to become graduates of Hemlock High School As such, we realize that we have a choice of the professions and should strive to make our decision in such a way as to make our Alma Mater as proud of us as we are of her Someone says, "Pan you do it" It is indeed a challenge but, When Duty whispers low "thou must", The youth replies, I can var if -ap. g, 'Q'-'gf '-'ei-r age if-. ,, ,,,, Z 1-'f gg? 3? 4549 SF , 4' Iggy 6 1 R 5'4- se 5' Q B- 'E'- I " "F s J 1-r,-,L E' if 318 3 "J 1 as fix,-.. 33, 'E lj, T' ' ? .1 PM 'Gig 5 'ff ' 'fl 'YS . w . In the Fall of '43, a large passenger plane stopped at Hemlock High, taxing on eight Freshmen on their first hop toward the road 'Commencemen The eight included Betty Larned, Marion Harvey, John Reed, Dora Trimmer, Eileen Long, Mildred Paul Arthur Toland, and Irene Trimmer These forty weeks, we enlisted Mrs Roome as our guide, Marion Harvey, pilot, Betty Larned, pilot, while Dora Trimmer kept the charts and Irene Trimmer took charge of the funds Our Freshman hop took us over Route 20, where people still marvel at our baked food sales Exams over, we landed safely for a couple months of rest, but off again in September of '44, with Irene Trimmer at the controls, aided by Dora Trhmner, while Marion Harvey kept the charts and funds Mrs Short, a flying enthusiast, became our able guide and we traded Eileen Long for Ken Metzger We stopped long enough to sponsor the annual Halloween Dance and later we started the tradition of a St Patr1ck's Dance In the Fall of '45, we resumed our flight with Mildred Paul at the controls, aided by Marion Harvey, with Dora Trimmer in charge of the charts and our meager funds Along our route we sold Christmas and Everyday greeting cards We presented the nPest Guest' with the Freshmen and Sophomores finishing the program We furnished eats at the basketball games and sponsored a Social hour for the gcnool celebrated St Patrick's Day with a dance and helped the Seniors with their Prom Resuming our flight in the Fall of '46, with Dora Trimmer at the controls, assisted by Marion Harvey, we turned the charts and rising funds to Ken Metzger The Army took Arthur Toland and we took ex- gob, Harold Blair, under our wing as well as Eileen Long Our first stop resulted in selling race pro- grams at the reopening of the nLittle World's Fair We again presented our talents as actors in the comedy, 'Moonlight for Herbert', and once more sold Christmas Cards At this time another plane, the Sophomores, sent out an S-O-S for aid on their Christmas Ball We aided them and then tried our hands as cooks for the Civic Club. We changed our St. Patr1ck's Dance this year by combining it with a card party. Still lacking funds for our Washing- ton trip, we sold reading material and vanilla to the people along Route 20. This accomplished, we turned our plane to Washington D.C. to spend our Easter vacation. Upon returning home, we crammed for the finals with the only let up being our Senior Prom, where we danced 'til the wee hours of the morn. Finally, passing the exams, we neared the road to success with our diplomas. We now bid fond farewell to our ship as each of us starts on his own way. 555552 5173!-' mi ' 595555 1, it 1 M St' if 7' r 2 , if K I 'A 'nl if .I -if ,.
