Hemlock Families Are Home for Exchange Students Tsiuji was a very intelligent stu- dent from Japan. But like the Jap- anese culture kept pretty much to himself. He did participate in track and was a member on the wrestling team. As a student going from one edu- cational system to another felt that schooling back home was much more advanced. Tsiuji has two sisters at home in Japan but while in Hemlock stayed with the Butler family. Lisa Rose was a sophomore this year. She came from Denmark and stayed in the home of the Gjerstad family. Lisa wasn't in- volved in any sports, but she enjoyed the business area's of our school. She went to B.O.E.C. and ended up competing in Detroit. She also went to Delta Skill Day where she had lots of fun with the group. After school, Lisa's go- ing back home to be with her family. Lisa hopes to come back to Hemlock again in 1989 to see her fellow classmates graduate. It will be a happy occasion for ev- eryone. Peter Ludvigsen came to Hemlock as a Senior. He stayed with the Cherry family. Mrs. Cherry is actively involved with the exchange program. Her son Sean is an only child and very much enjoys having a brother for a year. Sean say's his brother is treated the same. Peter is 17 years old and has one brother at home in Denmark. He enjoyed playing football and track. Peter felt school was much easier in the States vs. Denmark. Exchange Students 11 OUTRAGEOUS SPIRIT Top: Hemlock fans showing outrageous spirit. The purpose of the Pep Club is to keep the school spirit alive, which they did this year. The Pep Club came up with the idea and gave out masks for a Spirit Man . Spirit Man was worn by Becky Cole. The suspense to see who was this masked person was enjoyed by every- one. The club also had a special day set aside for each teacher. The teacher re- ceived a flower, signs and a Hi, Have a Nice Day from the members. □□nnnnBr } 14 Candids Candids 15 Homecoming Above: Freshman catch the excitement of Homecoming on film. After all the performances were fin- ished by the Pom Pon Squad and the Cheerleaders the anticipation of the crowd grew. Who would be the next King Queen: Tracey got up to the mi- crophone And the 1986 Homecoming King is Todd Davis . And the crowd roared with ex- citement. The Queen would be Jennifer Corcoran. Todd stood in the middle of the gym and I ran over to congratulate him. The Homecoming theme was Salute to Walt Disney . Right when the Homecoming game was ready to begin the Huskies experienced a malfunction in the lighting system. Instead of the game being played the next day. Swan Valley High School was gracious enough to let us use their field since they were playing an away game. Mr. Bauman felt the Queen should be crowned on her own field and decided to have the ceremony before leaving for Swan Valley. I was was crowned Queen by my Father. The crowd then moved down to Swan Valley and Homecoming 1986 will not be forgotten by me or the others who participated in the Festivities. Jennifer Corcoran Homecoming Queen 1986 Below: Introducing Walt Disney's Cinderella Float put on by Hemlock's Westsider's 4-H Club. Homecoming 1986 will never be for- gotten, the students showed a great deal of spirit the week prior to Home- coming. The guys dressed like girls. We also had a variety of nerds running around. Signs, balloons and crepe pa- per decorated the student center. Whispers filled the halls on who would be the next King and Queen. The Kings Court was made up of Todd Davis, Duane Hoeppner, Todd House and Mike Stantz. The Queens Court was made up of myself, Stephanie Hausbeck, Jami Majeski and Gail Shep- herd. He likes it in Hemlock because the people are so much more friendly. He would like to change lunch hour to only one hour so he could visit with more of his friends. Eric's hobbies are working with cars, weight lifting, and working at Meijers. He likes the new pop machine (just put in this year), but he is surprised that we don't find pop cans thrown all over the student center. On weekends he enjoys hanging out with friends and putting hours in at work. Eric's brother also has a job at Meijer's so it does help to have connections. The money is nice but the people could treat me a little nicer there. His favorite car is a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport. His favorite group is ZZ- Top and like most teens in the Tri-Cities he listens to 102 WIOG. His favorite sport is football which Eric also enjoys playing in his spare time. After graduation he plans to spend some time working for enough mon- ey to pay for his education. Then go to college and major in auto me- chanics or become a forest ranger. Our sources tell us that Eric is an excellent singer. Perhaps we have a John Bon Jovi amongst us waiting to be discovered. Graduation 101 Doing Your Own Thing Baccalaureate 1987 Baccalaureate is a time to reflex on the past and to look ahead to the future. Many times as seniors we can't wait to escape the confines and the schedule of school. And yet the reality of moving onto the uncer- tain is frightening. Doing Your Own Thing was their message delivered by Rev. Gerstad and yet there was also a second message and that is to be true to yourself and you won't be disappointed in the future. 102 Baccalaureate Jr. Sr. Ride the Wave Together 1987 was the first year that the Junior Senior Banquet was held other than at Prom. It was held in Merrill under the guidance of Mrs. Stapleton. We, Kim, Grace, Shannon, Colleen, and Kristy, will our hot-tempered brawls to anyone who carries on the tradition of Merrill vs. Hemlock. I, Sean Virgin, leave my itsy, bitsy, teenie weenie floral bikini to any junior. I, Mike Kehrer, will all my NO-DOZE to any last minute Junior taking Senior English. I, Dina Howe, will Mr. Sutton one bottle of Greecian Formula. I, Chris Dupuis, will Mr. Bauman all my unexcused passes. We, Barb and Jill, will all our gov't and econ not notes to the Juniors. 1, Lisa Rick, will all my change ups to Mr. Taylor. I, Matt Gudaitis, will my wrestling take down ability to Marty Massa. You need it. The Senior Class Officers will the Huskey foam mits to Mr. Blue. I, Duane Hoeppner, will me red hair to Darren Kalina. I, Steve Hendershot, will to Jody Sturtz my 3yr old notebook. I, Kristin Gorsline, will my long legs to Amy Weise. I, Don Bailey, will my haircuts to Dave Ling. Jr. Sr. Banquet 103 Typical Tourist Hanging out at Cedar Point Above Seniors hang out in the shade after taking a break from the rides. 104 Senior Trip Hey we'll hang out in the back of the bus. But they still couldn't escape Shannon's camera. Top: Tammy looks pretty beat. Above: Looks like alot of Seniors ob- tained some pretty mean sunburns. The week leading up to Gradu- ation is packed with a million things to do that are tradition in Hemlock. The weather is heating up and ceremonies are under way. The Senior Trip is a part of it—a last hurrah as a class and alot of fun. The Sen- iors took off for Ohio only after spending the night at the Y which comes directly after Baccalaurete. Tired? You bet and loving every minute of it. Remember Mr. Blue wearing that tackey Hawaiian print shirt and how sunburned Frank got? Matt thought he was so cool for hogging the back seat on the bus.
