Mr. Wallace attended Cass City High School participating in four major sports for four years. He lettered in all sports. He went on to attend Central Michigan University and received his B.S. and M.A. degree in physical education. In college he played football, basketball, and track. He signed on at Hemlock in 1961, as assistant varsity football coach, moving up to varsity head coach with an outstand- ing 134-47-2 record over a period of twenty-one years. He also was head coach of basketball and baseball. In 1974, 1975, and 1977 he was Class B Regional Coach of the Year. Bob and his wife Bea have two grown daughters and the Wallaces now devote much time to raising and showing registered Haflinger horses. EXCHANGE STUDENTS Kenneth came from Tromso, Norway for a year long stay. While staying with the David Schultz fam- ily, Kenneth enjoyed working on cars, restoring an old wooden boat, and partying. He participated on the ski team and qualified for the U.S. Ski Association junior Olympic Champion- ship in Aspen, Colo. Kenneth found his stay in the U.S. a strange but excel- lent experience. He espe- cially found joy in snowdays, which came new to him. Kenneth hopes to return to the U.S. and study economics then re- turn back home. Jenny Jungitsch Kenneth Dividsson—Norway, Andres Solar—Chile, Jussi Lehtonen—Finland. Andres left his sister, brother, and parents in Chile for a year's stay in the U.S. Andres stayed with the Dick Sarchet family. Andres enjoyed spending his extra time reading, thinking, partying, and bowling along with some other sports. He par- ticipated in cross country and track while attending school here. Andres enjoys the different life here from Chile and considers the U.S. a second home. Andres Solar Vaticano 3760 Santiago, Chile South America Jussi came to U.S. to stay with the Donald Hubbard family, leaving his Finnish brother parents to enjoy a yearlong rest. Jussi partici- pated on the ski team, mak- ing it to state and getting the Leonard Coke” Butko Award. He participated in the famous Hemlock band. He played trumpet in the band, and also made it to state with the brass ensem- ble with his own solo. In America he liked the cloth- ing, food, and the people. His favorite TV show was Mork Mindy. He liked American girls and said that they liked him even more (he dreams a lot, too). When we asked Jussi if he had any more negative or positive comments, he an- swered, YEAH. HEADLINES OF 1985-1986 During our generation we have witnessed a number of events that are worthy of taking note, some of which we will never forget and some that could possibly slip our minds. We witnessed the death of the King of Rock-n-Roll, Elvis Presley, and viewed on national television the explosion of the space shuttle which carried the first American citizen into space. She was a teacher by the name of Christa McCollough. This tragic event was viewed by millions of people across the United States and each of us will never forget the time of day it happened or what each of us was doing when we first heard of it. President Ronald Reagan was shot while exiting a building from which he emerged after having just delivered a speech. He recovered but an employee by the name of |im Brady was not as fortunate. As a result of his injuries he was left partially paralized. He is certainly an inspiration to all people. For his desire to live has made him conquer many obstacles of every day living. Their assailant, )ohn Hinkley |r„ was determined as being mentally ill, and his parents have traveled the United States since then trying to educate the American public about mental illness. On the light side, or should we say, not so light side, we had our first Refrigerator in the history of the NFL. He played for the Chicago Bears and his name was Refrigerator Perry. There was the battle of the cola's. Coke vs Pepsis. Pepsi claimed to be the choice of a new generation while Coke launched a major campaign introducing New Coke and Classic Coke. Their slogan was Catch the Wave , as a wave shaped design was on cans of Coke. We were fortunate to have the music of people like Bruce Springsteen and John Cougar Mellancamp. Bruce sang songs reflecting the feelings of the American people and donated thousands of dollars to centers sheltering the homeless in our country. With Mellancamp urging people to stand for something and being proud of what and where we come from. In May of 1986 the Soviet Union had a disasterous nuclear explosion in the city of Chernobai. Although at this time the rest of the world doesn't have a death toll as many are in hospitals suffering from the after effects. This event is not only tragic for the people of the Soviet Union but also for the many other countries that encourage nuclear power. It has made us all realize how vulnerable we are in the name of progress. 98 IN PLACES: HOTEST CONCERTS: The Quad 10 The Mall The Den Motley Crue Bruce The Boss Springsteen Van Halen IN CLOTHING: POPULAR TV PROGRAMS: Crop Pants Hawaiian Shirts Most anything big Miami Vice Moon Lighting The Bill Cosby Show CARS: POPULAR MOVIES: Chevettes Cameras Pick-ups Out of Africa Color Purple Teen Wolf FAVORITE ACTOR ACTRESS: TOP SONGS: Don Johnson Michael ). President Ronald Reagan spoke with Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev about arms reduction. The Hemlock Band traveled to Japan. The question of the year was, Will the milage be defeated of undefeated? BEACH DAY AND STILL IT RAINED Even though it rained beach day was enjoyed by all sim- ply because we didn't have to sit in class. Some stu- dents listened to the sound of Asylum in the gym while others risked the chance of getting caught with squirt bottles. Games were played in the student center and when it wasn't pouring people went outside. Beach Day is usually held on the football field but with graduation approaching we wanted the football field in the best possible condition.
