This year at Hemlock High School, for the first time, a paper was published independently from the regular class schedule. A group of students, headed by Mrs. Gunther, produced a paper monthly to keep the students informed of the school’s events. The imaginative illustrations and the advice column were ingredi- ents that were never seen before in previous papers. o c QJ Vi 3 O ro Vi ro ( ) n o o 19

It helped bright- en the school by donating tbe paint for tbe abstract mural in the hallway. From profits made at the basketball concession stands, the organization placed the first payment on the intercom system. The members spent a day at Birch Run to see how their student leaders worked. The student council sponsored a valentine Morp dance, in which females asked males. Also in February, they organized spirit week. There were dress-up days and activities during lunch. 18

The senior high band was on the move this year. They kept the community well entertained with con- certs throughout the year. They helped with homecoming by constructing a float and playing for the game. The band aided the school’s assemblies by leading the student body in the school song. They had a Christmas concert which filled the audi- ence with the holiday spirit. The HHS band received a I at District and a II at State which is the best they have done in the past few years. The band traveled to Toronto for an international music festi- val, where they took second place. They played at the Bavarian Festival in Frankenmuth, too. The musi- cians fund raisers were a rock-a-thon, car wash, candy sales, spaghetti dinner, T-Shirt sales, kit sale, canister sale, and a Bar-B-Que. These helped finance their Toronto trip and European Tour scheduled for the summer of '84. The sky's the limit for the band, and the talent is shining through. 20
