David E. Madden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Madden, 16901 Gratiot Road, Hemlock was chosen as our Valedictorian for 1982. His accomplishments while he was a student at Hemlock included awards in: Biology I, Algebra II, English 10, Chemistry I, and Typing I. He has also competed in the B.O.E.C. Competition for two years, and in 1980, received a 1st in the Regionals and a 2nd in the State Manual Typewriting division. Dave is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. He has also lettered in Baseball, Basketball, and Football. In 1981, Dave made “1st Team” in Baseball, Tri-Valley Conference and Valley News: and Honorable Mention— Midland Dally News and Saginaw News. Dave has been accepted at the University of Michigan in the College of Engineering. His future plans include becoming an electrical engineer. Lynn M. Erskine, our Salutatorian for 1982, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Erskine, 445 Ault Street, Hemlock. Lynn has received awards in Biology I, German I, Typing I, General Business, Chemistry I, German II, American History, and Business. She has also received Regional and State B.O.E.C. awards in Typing, Proofreading and Job Interviews: and has been a 1st place winner (General Business) at Delta Skill Day. Another accomplishment for Lynn was to be selected from 11,000 Michigan State applicants to take the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship Competition Test (800 took the test). She was also accepted at the University of Michigan and named a Regent's Scholar. Lynn has been active in many extracurricular activities including: Spring Musicals, Junior Class Play, Senior Class Play, Student Council, Cheerleading, Volleyball, and a Class Officer (Sophomore). She was also a representative in the 1982 Homecoming Court. Lynn plans on attending Michigan State University and majoring in Computer Science. 29
