Freshmen Hemingford High School's Class of '86 was the largest of the upper grades, numbering 34. The freshman class consisted of 22 boys and only 12 girls. The class gained eight new members from rural schools when school began in the fall. One class member, Troy Hunter, was featured on national television. The Little Britches rodeo participant was interviewed on the Good Morning America show in a segment on youth rodeo. Freshman class officers included Theron Jensen (president), Troy Hunter (vice- president), Trevor Williams (secretary), Carol Schekall (treasurer), Julie Loomis and Jerry Schock (student council representatives).
