Mr. Steinback attended Wisconsin State College at Superior where he niet his wife, Lou, With their two sons, Chip and Skip, they now live on a ranch. Most ot the construction and handi-work was done by Mr. Steinback himself. Although his recreational hobbies are mainly fishing and golfing, tormer and present annual staffs are very fortunate that he also takes a great interest in photography. Since he came here in 1953 he has taught biology, physical sci- ence, zoolcgy, photography, and he has sponsored the Sophomore Class. ln tact, Mr. Steinback is involved in most school activities and the students appreciate his interest and friendliness. His ready smile and enthusiasm also contribute to his being an all-around good guy. Here, Mr. Steinback, is the l9S8 Tahguitz. Proving themselves worthy of the title Mighty Seniors they thoroughly trounced the juniors in the annual lun- ior-Senior football game, the final score stood l9 to O. One of the many highlights of the year was the traditional senior class play, Lost Horizon. Those who saw the play agreed it was an outstanding achievement. To raise money to help finance their senior activities week, they had bake sales and car washes, all of which were very successful. Some of the activities enjoyed by the seniors were a fabulous ditch day, bac- calaureate, and to climax the year, graduation followed by a memorable all night party. XX ERNIE ALVAREZ. They began to earn money for the Ir.- Sr. Banquet and Prom by selling concessions at the I.V. football games and also at the Walnut Bowl game. They- sponsored a bake sale, a car wash, and a dance, the very successful Candyland Hop at which Miss Hemet was announced. Besides the money making ac- tivities, the Sophs, following tradition, painted the H and came home with more paint on themselves than there was on the H . They decorated the goal posts at all home football games, and despite an all-out effort, the Sophs lost to the Iuniors in the annual basketball game. The happy day, for which the Sophs waited impa- tiently, finally came and the class rings were distributed and proudly shown off to the other students. First it was a pen sale. The pens were in school colors and had the football schedule printed on them. And speaking of football - the Iuniors handled a big job when they had the concessions for the football and basketball seasons. Where sports are concerned, so are Iuniors - they participated in the Iunior-Senior football game, Iunior vs. Sophomore basketball game, and built the impressive bonfire for the annual Hemet vs. San Iacinto football rally. To add to the festivities, the Iuniors made and sold candied apples and pop corn balls on the last day of school before Christmas vacation. Continuing in the commercial world the active fifty-niners sponsored car Washes, bake sales, and produced the Iunior Class play, The Miserf' The Halloween dance was the first, but cer- tainly not the last, social event of the year sponsored by the luniors. WWW The Hemet Bulldogs almost pulled the football up- set of the year when they held highly favored Beau- mont, the league champs, to their lowest score of the entire season. At the half neither team had scored, then Hemet went out in front 7-O, but with only 17 flu-free Bulldogs suited up, the final quarter saw Beaumont eke out a l3-7 victory. Although the Bulldogs seem to have been in a football depression and were picked to finish in the second division, Hemet fielded a team which gave a fine performance and which showed real power and speed. The season ended with 4 victories, 4 losses, and a tie. Hemet won both practice games against Fall- Varsity Manager BONNIE ARNSMEYER called? brook and Vista. The Vista game was rough and tough, and some players sustained injuries which bothered them all through the season. Injuries, how- ever, did not dampen the Bulldog spirit. Both the Coachella and San lacinto games were well played and hard fought, and the game with Elsinore re- sulted in a 9-6 Hemet victory. Hemet won this game by virtue of a field goal which was the only one in the BCL in several seasons. Both Coach Marshall and Coach Smith have done a fine job welding a team together this year. Bulldog fans saw some really fine football, and the players, win, lose, or draw, can be proud of their determina- tion and spirit, fi.
