leaderslub By Dedlkaffbn Unite Band And forps Leaders of the Band did a fantastic job this year. The officers were great in running the legislative portion of the unit. They were in charge at all band council meetings, discussing upcoming events and the raising of funds for band trips. Steve Redmond was an award winning Mace Drum Major. His abilities as a leader also carried over into the practices where he was in charge of discipline. The band practiced almost four hours a day, and were well rewarded for their efforts at Long Beach, their biggest parade. They placed lst in their division, against many other good bands. Pep Band P ovokes Selma! Spf' 1? Looking like men from the Mafia, and playing great music besides, the Pep Band came on strong, keeping Helix spirit at a high level. They played at all away football games and could be heard yelling to our team their new cheer, 'Beat their face.' They were also at all assemblies, pep rallies, and basketball games. Besides the good music they played, they could march and perform as well. They did a half-time show called 'A Salute to Sex' for a Grossmont J.C. game, and were also invited to play at a convention of refrigerator salesmen.
