Sim wman fuk Sinha And Bnhgs Vfbfory Qnce again this year, the Highlander Band and Corps brought honors home to Helix. The marching season got off to a big start with the first out-of-state trip the band and corps have ever taken. They traveled to Mesa, Arizona, to do a half- time show at Westwood High. Then it was on to Flagstaff for the Northern Arizona University Homecoming Parade and also a pre-game show. Autumn Band Review was the next Weekend, and Helix, as last years' sweepstakes band, hosted the parade. Chaffey was the first big competition for both the band and corps. The Hi- Steppers took sweepstakes with a fantastic score of 96.7. The band could not compete, but got the highest score of the parade. Drum Major Steve Redmond won the trophy for the best drum major in the parade. Flying in the breeze were the new banners, which helped get Helix the Showmanship trophy. That night at half- time competition, the band and corps got another sweepstakes trophy and came home rejoicing! Hawthorne, Arcadia, Mother Goose, Maytime, Dinseyland, a Charger half- time show, the spring Pops Concert, and Long Beach were also on the list of activities for the 1972-73 Helix Band and Hi-Steppers.
