The driveway around the school has been black-topped to insure safer driving conditions. Some of the classrooms have been improved by installing accoustical tile on the ceilings. The kindergarten and first grade classes have been moved from the high school to the elementary building. This has enabled several teachers to fin- ally have their own home rooms. New teacners include Mrs . Brickman as art teacher, and Mrs . Roberts as English and literature teacher. Also an- other foreign language, German, has been added to the curriculum and is taught by Mrs. Nelson. A new Language Club has been formed under the direction of Mrs . Franzman and Mrs . Nelson. The Junior High and High School stu- dent body has increased to 349 with 20 faculty members . Because of the increase of the student body, the Seneca Staff has decided to omit grades one through six. This omis- sion also enables the high school to have larger class pictures and more room for school activities in the Seneca . Dedication We, the Senior Class of Hebron High School, wish to dedicate this, the 1968 SENECA, to Mrs. Hannah Eldridge. In the eight years she has taught, Mrs. Eldridge has been a fine teacher and close friend. She has given unselfishly of her time and knowledge. We know that this dedication is but a small token expressing our thanks for all the time she has given; however, we hope it expresses our appreciation for her years of service to our school. HOWARD DILLABAUGH Trustee The administration of our school is headed by the trustee, Mr. Dillabaugh and the princi- pal, Mr. Knauff. They are assisted by Mr. Gwin, Assistant Principal and Dean of Boys and Mrs. Berrier, Dean of Girls. These people do the work that keeps the school running smoothly and efficiently. The secretary, Jo Guillod, is the person responsible for aptly keeping all the books and handling all the money. And Mrs. Kaldahl, Secretary to Mr. Gwin, helps him with his typ- ing and keeping of records . Without the services of each of these people our school could not function effectively in guiding our students in their course of education. In October, we took our Senior Trip to Washington D.C. and New York City. Each one of us can say that every minute was enjoyed even though we were tossed about from planes to buses, to walking and more walking. To add to the confusion, we tried to absorb all we could of the historical and interesting sights shown in such a little time . We also noticed the contrast between the two cities we visited; Washington being impressive and New York City being exciting! All in all, we believe that our Senior Trip will be one we will long remember , Senior JERRY ADANK LARRY ARMSTRONG — Class Vice-President 3; Student Council 4; Booster Club 1,3,4; National Honor Society 3,4j Baseball 1,2,3,4; Basketball 1,2, 3,4; Track 1,2,3,4; Band 1,2,3; Boy ' s State Alternate 3; Junior Play 3. Underwater Fantasy was the theme of the Junior-Senior Prom which was created by Arlen Bergslien. Based on the Legend of Atlantis, it proved to be a very colorful and beautiful event. The large mural was painted in vivid colors depicting underwater life. Large, beautifulfish were swimming through an- cient ruins and delicate sea shells and ferns adorned the ocean ' s floor. To add to the beauty was a graceful oyster shell throne . The King and Queen sat on large pearls in the center of the throne . An interesting part of the prom was the refreshment table. This was an old sunken ship ' s hull lit by small lan- terns. The theme was made complete by having the servers dress as pirates. And of course, there was the usual treasure chest, overflowing with gold and jewels and care- fully guarded by a beautiful mermaid. This beautiful Underwater Fantasy will surely be remembered as a wonderful event. Along with the other music classes, these band members also participate in the annual spring and winter concerts . With much practice these students will eventually become members of the high school band and will participate in its activities. Junior High Band PRESIDENT--PAULA COLMAN The Student Council serves to provide a basis for a better understanding be- tween the students and the faculty. The Student Council is responsible for the se- lection of the convocations for the student body, for presenting such holiday pro- grams as the Thanksgiving convocation, and for sponsoring various activities for the benefit of the students and the school. The council also sponsors members to the Student Council Workship and to the Student Council Convention. Included in their activities this year, the council selected a school flag and for the first time revised our handbook. Student Council Booster The Booster Club is made up of students in grades 7 thru 12. These students yell to back our team at basketball and baseball games, and at track and cross country meets. This year at the Porter County Tourney, our Booster Club worked hard to prepare an organized block. The purpose of the block was to generate en- thusiasm and promote good sportsmanship. The cos- tuming and yells centered around the theme Happi- ness is Being Champs and the antics of the famous Peanuts gang. This is prob- ably the largest single proj- ect of the club all year. Club but the members are con- tinually working to create school spirit and good sportsmanship among the participants and fans, both young and old. The Booster club members have their work cut out for them to cheer the Hebron Hawks to vi ctory no matter what the sport or who the opponent is , COUNTY TOURNEY January ' 68 but Happiness is winning, is also being a part of the victory when you have yelled and cheered your team on to do its very best. VJ.iV.i . Again this year, the G.A.A. has been quite active. As a member of the State organization, a volleyball team was formed and the girls participated in games with other schools. The theme for their annual dance was Candy land. At the end of each year the G.A.A. holds its annual banquet where the next year ' s officers are announced. This is looked forward to by all. Officers of the G.A.A. are as fol- lows: President, Joan Simpson; Vice President, Michelle Smok; Pat Torb- eson, Secretary; and Kim Gant, Treasurer. Brenda Einsphar, Rosa Rajkovic, Pat Osburn, and Mari- anne Minor. Seneca Staff The Seneca Staff started early and stayed late from September to March, working once and sometimes twice a week on the yearbook. The Staff sold ads, typed and re -typed pages, and took many pic- tures. We had a lot of fun and hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did work- ing on it. Honor Society The National Honor Society is under the direction of Mrs. Franzman and Mr. Knauff . The Society sponsored a March of Dimes drive and a special project. In addition to this, the Society provided ushers for Commencement and Baccalau- reate and was in charge of the Easter program . To conclude a very successful year, the Society took a trip to Chicago to see a well-known movie. The club was very busy this past year with numerous activities. Again this year the F.H.A. sponsored a Brownie Points for F.H.A, day. A Christmas party was held and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Berrier, the club sponsor, ac- companied the girls as they went Christ- mas caroling. In April, the club spon- sored an F.H.A. week. Each day was special, for example, sweat shirt day, red and white day, and a dress -up day were held. The week was climaxed with a dance. All in all, the year was pros- perous and a lot of fun. Science Club The Science Club, sponsored by Mr. Rutherford, increased its membership this year to forty. In addition to the busi- ness part of the meeting, films were shown and special reports were given by the members . Outside activities included several field trips among them being Ar- gon National Laboratory. As a special project, the club once again sponsored a Science Fair. Officers for this year were Dave Martin, president, Gary Pierce, vice-president, and Jane Yeoman, secre- tary-treasurer. The Safety Patrol has done a very good These boys deserve co-operation from job assisting Mr. Roland Kuntzman, our all the students for the fine job they are adult patrolman, in guiding the children doing for us . past the crossings. BOYS ' STATE Boys ' State delegates attend Hoosier Boys ' State for one week during the sum- mer at Indiana University at Blooming- ton. During this time, the boys learn about the state government, its officers, its legislative processes, and its poli- tics. This year ' s Boys ' Staters are Jim HuUihan, delegate; and Larry Arm- strong, alternate. D.A.R. AWARD The qualifications for the D.A.R. Good Citizen Award are leadership, service, de- pendability, and patriotism. Congratulations to Linda Neth- ery for receiving this honor. GIRLS ' STATE Girls ' State delegates are chosen each year by the faculty on the basis of academic standing, citizenship, and an active interest in government . The girls learn much about the government and gain a better knowledge and respect for their nation. This year ' s Girls ' Staters are Paula Colman, delegate; and Linda Nethery, alternate . Recognitions The student secretaries work various hours in the office and try to make the job of our secretary, Mrs. Guillod, a little easier. In the morning and after school, John Knopf, Jack Haberlin, and David Helm faithfully take care of the school flag . So our school will never be thirsty, Jerry Mclntire spends a few minutes each day filling the pop machine . Jane Yeoman, Peggy Sheetz, and Evelyn Slosman fill the candy machine to make our school sweet. in U H W H m f r n Track For the first time this year the Seneca staff decided to print the record of the 1966-67 track season to give due recog- nition to the boys who work so hard to maintain a winning record for our school. Although they didn ' t fare quite so well as they have in recent years, the Hawks pro- vided fans with some very excit- ing moments. The Hawks were victorious in a very thrilling ' game over River Forest; and when we won by one point after an overtime with the Liberty Lions, the fans were completely exhausted by the hectic suspense. Mike Hofferth led this year ' s varsity team in scoring and re- bounding. Larry Armstrong Mike Hofferth and Randy Werner cheerleaders It is the job of the varsity cheerleaders to create school spirit and generate enthus- iasm at all sports events and athletic contests. This year ' s cheerleaders, Sonja Osby, Jean Simpson, Linda Kethery, and Barb Stalbaum worked hard to fulfill this obligation. They started by attending a camp held at Syracuse, In- diana, where they learned the newest techniques. These techniques were put to use all year to cheer the Hawks to another successful season. Barb Stalbaum, Jean Simpson, Linda Nethery, Sonja Osby Sonja Baseball The 1967 Hebron High School base- ball team had another very successful year, tying for the Porter County Con- ference Title with a 6-1 record. This was the sixth year in a row the Hawks have won or tied for the conference championship. These boys were also able to maintain their poise in the hectic final moments of the close games and come out victorious. Junior Varsity Jane Yeoman Mary Lou Eichelberger The junior varsity cheerleaders worked hard this year not only in en- couraging their team to do their best but also in assisting the varsity squad. Team work is an essential part of the cheer - leading squad as well as the team and these girls did their part. For the first time this year, these girls participated in the school song which was a spirited and attractive addition. Cheerleaders Junior High Like the junior high ball play- ers, these girls are eagerly awaiting the day when they can cheer the high school teams to victory.
