Lower Grade Capers All of the llttle strangers who came to Heaton rchool thxs year oe clded to spend the term ln the pr1mary department Jerome Ortgmes who came from Harvey Sharol Helm a Yankton student Cheryl Ruetter from Lodz Calxfornla ana Shlrley Zelgler from Oakes all enrolled m the thxrd grade durmg the school year Our largest class was grade three wxth ten students mn the class The first grade was composef' of fou llttle grrls Carol Patrxe Dlana Neumrller Marlys Reutter and Mary Ann Moser They very t1m1dly entered our door September 17 ana s1nce that txme have changed from txmld l1ttle people mto very school wmse students Our favorxte classes th1s year were the aaxly art classes We color ed Wlth chalk dxd fmger pamtmg and made free hand drawmgs We lxked our poetry class too We sold t1ckets for our school carnlval aga1n and presented a pro gram for our parents at Chrxstmas t1me We had four n1ce partles wluch came at rlalloween Chr1stmas Easter and Valentme s Day The days we enjoye the most and wa1ted the longest for were Cowboy Day and Doll Upper Grade Hzghlzghts All of the blgger strangers who came to Heaton thls year declded to spend the term 1n the upper grade room Phyllms Schoumaker who went school LH Valley Clty last year IS a new sxxth grader Joyce Zexgler IS ln the f1fth grade her sxster Jean IS a seventh grader Blg brother Leroy Zexgler xs ln the elghth grade Our enrollment IS seventeen We went to the Young CITIZCDS League rally 1n Fessenden mOctober Yvonne Munson and Ruth Erfle were delegates Mrs Stubert vxslted our room thls year Other guests were Mrs Loeppke and Mrs St Jacque This year we were able to play softball untll December Surprlsmg ly enough we were able to be hard at lt aga1n on Aprll 2 We went to the hall to play on Tuesday and Thur day after lunch The prlmary people played there on Monday and Wednesday Thls year we do not br1ng our lunches to school because we get blg meal at noon as a result of the school lunch program Yvonne and Larry Munson won third and flrst ID thelr groups m the spellmg contest On Apr1l Z0 they went to r- essenden to spell down other wmners ln the county We worked very hard 1n makmg a booklet on the Unlted Natlons or our Y C L project Four people graduated from the elghth grade thls year Yvonne Munson Ruth Erfle Leroy Zelgler and Nlerhn Heuutz 15 . 3 . , , - .
