A Camera'-s View: C ass of '57 Left to right: Vice President, Phil Conran, Pres- ident, Ronnie Dick, Secretary-Treasurer, Barbara Sauersg Yell Leader, Tim Ganow. l They had finally reached their goal--Seniors! To lead them through this hectic last year, they put at the helm of their class, President Ronnie Dick. His co-officers were Vice President, Phil Conrang Secretary-Treasurer, Barbara Sauersg and Yell Leader, Tim Ganow. Merry Christmas Ba1l was the theme of their Senior Dance. A huge silver Christmas tree was their centerpiece, and a glittering mirror ball revolved slowly overhead. Preceding the dance was the senior dinner, and turkey headed the menu, Following this there were many more exciting activities: the Kiwanis Luncheon, Senior Breakfast, Senior Cut Day, Baccalaureate, and last of all Commencement Exercise and their farewell party. These are the same timid little freshmen who entered the halls of wisdom, a little awed by the seniors, but deter- mined to show the upper classmen that they too could be outstanding. After surviving the initiation, they put aside their shyness and chose their first leaders. They elected Reggie Elgin, President: Phil Conran, Vice Presidentg Nancy Poore, Secretary-Treasurer: and Tin Ganow, Yell Leader. As their sophomore year began, they were dismayed to find that in the new high school they were once again the lower classmen. Nevertheless, with a year of experience behind them, they were able to choose competent leaders for a good all-round year. Phil Conran was voted President. His helpers were Merle Osborn, Vice Presidentg Barbara Sauers, Secretary-Treasurerg and Tim Ganow, Yell Leader. During the year they held their first social e- vent, the annual Sophomore Hop. Their theme was Underwater Paradise' and their centerpiece, a reclining mer- maid, was much talked about. As the year ended, they were proud to have been the first sophomore class at l-l.S.H.S. Juniors and upper classmen at last! After appropriately welcoming the sophomores, they settled down to business. First on their agenda was the election of class officers. John Fay was chosen Presidentg Bonnie Doyle, Vice Presidentg Sandy Duden, Secretary-Treasurer: and Tim Ganow, Yell Leader. The first dance of the year was their Junior Dance, held in November. The theme was Thanksgiving, and the centerpiece, an overflowing Cornucopia, was symbolic of the occasion. Their stage decorations, consisting of a live turkey, received many pleasant comments. Next they had the big job of the Junior-Senior Prom. Their theme was Oriental Fantasy, and their centerpiece was a series of lakes surrounded by shrubbery and crossed by an oriental bridge, Everyone agreed that it was one of the most beautiful dances yet given at l-lealdsburg High. Now as their senior year comes to an end, they are a little sad to leave behind four wonderful years: but they have many cherished memories that will remain with them throughout life. 16
