On February 12, I-lazen's Afro-Amer- ican club sponsored their second annual show, Psychedelic Soul , which was presented every period in the large group room. Joyce Reed, president, opened the show by introducing Janet Jones, Debbie Weathers, and Linda Swanigan, who performed an authentic African dance. One of the highlights of the show was the reading of black poetry, where indi- viduals read poems by black authors. Other highlights of the show were a modern dance performance, an African drum number, and a commercial. The show was considered a great suc- cess, performing to standing room only crowds every period. Mr. Donely was the group's advisor. .. .139 , 5 'i D i if i 'S xl. at K' , iii ' it Z .5 fi + :A .sf if ' 5 3 . 139

Hillbilly Weddin'. A real, live chicken set the mood for the Hillbilly Weddin - a play produced by the drama class this year. In more detail, the plot consisted of the earnest endeavors of Paw to marry off his two daughters, Ceelie and Bonnie May. Complications arose when Paw couldn't find anyone to marry Ceelie. By resorting to a shotgun, however, he almost convinced Chiz Upshlager to be the groom when a dude, Ronald, and his aunt came to the humble hillbilly abode. Plans for a shotgun,' wedding be- tween the dude and Ceelie began im- mediately. Paw was determined not to let the dude get away and he displayed his shotgun to inforce his decision. In the end, Obecy, long in love with Ceelie, decided to marry her first, leav- ing the dude and his aunt free to take Bonnie May to the city. its ,, 1 1. 1, 11 17 11 if Imffz:i11.i211fm1 11111511fs11f.frf.1fff.swWg,gQg,gt - . fill fl'--2zif2.ffii11ff1'Ifit-1uf:f111ti1fa.1ff.1ff.-fm'1lsx1g1,seg,s1g,gffglffilwii:ft-421 at 1 , ' 1: Mjkgiy' 41,,1 77.j,:gEgg,skggs 5 s 'rj jig jzgfjjf ,st,,,W,yQ5l1iQ,I,,51151T1.SQEQ1-IiiTIb?LS.iL:i,1l?'f5:l? is-'li-Wg K I n fi 'Q slzvsvfs lt il sf - V - V -f - ' , ,Q l 1 111 1 QM:1wisif1fawi,22i dev :' 'L .f 2, .1 fi ff fl? if P 3 N' r'i::',:: ,.:'Q,,Q9iikQf3,jiQ 12, :QS Ili 'j: ggf f1:P:g:g: iff,::2:1:Q'.PZ:gf':gf3:r:Yi' :W':5ig'q'l5Zr:f2Z1g9K 1m i - , .. , .f - 1 'STE i ' 3 VT'f'lff 1'ijUniskit-',:-'K.5 :,:f71SHI!31:5fyifigbfjvjgjlgfiggfnfbff'fg55g5?iE:f7,S!4V-532451-i?gf7gS?f3f5f,5f5X?4 151 1 1 1 1. . 1 Q W. .ya1,g:13gs-gg11fz,f1,-.-n,s',,.s,,.11,5fwH3,Es.5.:,,L.x,,,:i.!21gsz,, 1 t K f +2ff2,21 B 5 1 Q 1 55935 Q i i I , ' 1 if 1? jig 1 f SIX 14 1 0b6GYttUPShi?BB?,,,Sl3i C1112 Ul?3hl??S?fP1ie, Ronald: Maxwellg Lucy Maxwell . . Hazen started the season right by jumping to a 2-0 record, defeating both Kennedy and Sammamish decisively. Then came a real test, South Puget Sound League favorite Auburn. Hazen led all the way but a few bad breaks in the last minute spelled doom and the Highlanders lost 53-50. The first league game was another heartbreaker as Kentridge topped Hazen by two points. Hazen bounced back by smashing Tyee. This set the stage fog the Hazen-Renton game. Both teams exchanged baskets for three quarters, but early in the fourth quarter Renton scored 13 unanswered points and hung on to win. A non-league loss to Bellevue followed, but the Highlanders rallied back to squeak past Highline by three points. Hazen then traveled to Mt. Rainier and suffered a devastating loss. The under- dog Highlanders then rebounded to de- feat Kent-Meridian by five points on Hazen's home court. 4 -wh if f i . ,... .NN , f u.
