Success for the J.V., Sophomore land Freshman teams is not measured in wins and losses, but in giving unproven players game experience. The J.V. team under the direction of Coaches Bill Diambri and Cliff Root provided valuable depth in the Varsity's Glacier game. Although the Sophomores took their licks all season, Coaches .lack Thompson and Myron Huckle played many players who will continue to make Hazen a strong contender in the N.P.S.L. Coaches Joe Hauser and Gary Matt- son continued the trend with the Fresh- man team. Despite an undistinguished 2-4 record, several standouts developed during the season, highlighted by an 8-6 triumph over Dimmitt. as freshmen gain experience ? One of the most important jobs at Hazen, that of handling crowd spirit and encouraging support and pride for our athletic teams, was left to an enthusi- astic and well-prepared cheer squad. Attending the Washington State cheer- leader clinic in August, they brought back several first, second and third place ribbons, plus the spirit award, which was a great honor for any squad. The first of the year brought autumn, rain, and football games. With a winning team and a student body behind the team 100 percent, the cheerleaders were successful in representing Hazen at its best. Winter brought basketball, and the tradition established in the fall car- ried over for the remainder of the year.
