Each received a bouquet of roses from their official escort. Queen Sue added words of encouragement as flash bulbs popped around them. Climaxing homecoming was a semi-formal dance held Halloween night. The queen and her court portrayed well the theme, Make Me Smile, as they led off the first dance of the evening. Muted lighting and a candle-lit atmosphere added to the setting. Green, gold and blue were the predominant colors. Sponsored by Boys' Club, Hazen's first homecoming set an exciting tradition for years to come. ll7

First Homecoming sets exciting traditions Hazen 21 Highline O Hazen's first Homecoming was a happy one as the Highlanders over- powered the Highline Pirates 21-0. After the halftime show, Hazen scored two more touchdowns to add assurance to their 7-0 halftime lead. The High- landers had one of the best games ofthe season as the fantastic defense stopped Highline for a puny 5 yards rushing. During the evening Frank Reed scored twice and threw to Dirk Crump for the other touchdown as the entire Highlander offensive team outmanned Highline's defense. H6

Hazen 12 Glacier 7 Hazen came from behind during the second half in the cold of Highline Sta- dium to beat the Glacier Grizzlies 12-7. Hazen was favored for an easy win but picked up many costly penalties. Many of the 12 penalties stopped High- lander threats during crucial moments of the game. Beane scored on a 4 yard run and the other touchdown came on a' 63 yard Tim Lambro to Frank Reed pass which put Hazen ahead for good. 9 Darrell Beane goes over for Hazenfs first touch- down, as Hazen went on to beat Glacier 12-7. Hazen 32 Tyee 36 Tyee rallied back in the final quarter from a 32-22 deficit and squeezed out a 36-32 victory over the Highlanders. Both teams had strong offenses as they each scored 5 touchdowns. There was not a single punt during the game. Scoring came on two runs by Frank Reed, one by Tim Lambro, and two Reed passes, one each to Dirk Crump and Tom Lambro. Much praise was in order for Hazen's offensive line which, even though greatly outsized by Tyee, was able to open good holes for Hazen backs. Hazen defenders force the Tyee ballcarrier out ofbounds on a crucial fourth down play. Hazen 28 Kentridge 12 Hazen took a 14-0 halftime lead and held on to beat Kentridge 28-12. Though Hazen suffered 10 penalties, one calling back a touchdown, the Hazen offensive team was able to score three touchdowns with the other coming on an 86 yard kickoff return. All four touchdowns were scored by Gary Reed, who had his best night ofthe season. Hazen scored twice in the first half, but in the second half Kentridge brought the score to 14-12. Hazen then won, going away with two more touchdowns laterin thehalf. Kentridge running back is tackled by two members of Hazen's hard hitting defense.
