Waskowitz A unique learning experience Given about 175 students and faculty members, the Satyn Finish, several coun- cils, fishbowls, and trustwalksg place them by a river at a place called Wasko- witz and what do you have? You would have the first semester leadership con- ference of 1970. Organized by Paula Morgan, this conference spanned four days,. begin- ning on a Saturday in November and lasting until the next Tuesday. Unique would probably be the word to use when describing this conference. Students found themselves involved in both the fun and serious matters ofcamp. For the first time, they were called upon tomake and enforce decisions to regu- late camp activity. Sometimes emergency meetings had to be held with the advisor, Mr. Suzick. By the time of departure almost every- one remembered not only the hard times, but also the fun. After all, there had been two dances, funny pranks, and football, volleyball, and basketball games to remember. lO9

offer opportunity for student involvement Freshmen would probably agree that here was no finer way they could have reen welcomed to Hazen than by the Eirls' Club cabinet. In a fall assembly, after the members if Boys' Club cabinet had been intro- luced, the girl's cabinet sang to the frosh md then proceeded to close the balcony loors on them. This year the girl's cabinet was like hat-always doing something a bit risky. vieanwhile the boy's cabinet would sit mack and laugh at them. More serious, however, were their :ombined efforts to sponsor activities or student participation. Aiding presi- lents Cheryl Houser and Bruce Palmer vere the cabinet members: Kathy Blood, lean Salter, Judy Stark, Jan Graham, Anne Lightfoot, Sydnie Jones, Carol Y H ,,,, ,3- 1' ii',.s . s z , ig, ,L 'L s iff ' fi. - fig' P. In the fall, Boys, Club staged a Hazen first - Homecoming. Following in Decem- ber was a widely publicized Christmas tolo. In early 1971, the girl's cabinet attend- ed a second league conference while the boy's cabinet proposed a reader-board for the school. When the end of school year arrived, both presidents could look back on a busy year, due not only to cabinet enthu- siasm but also to the other elected offi- cers - vice presidents Jan Simonds and Bob Barden along with secretaries Sue Fife and Dick Case. -Q., 'lv ,f , it ,.,4 gzippp A !!
