Y W t Self-determinatinn motivates top tive Farming, marriage, and college awaited the top five seniors at Hazen High in '74, Selection of the Top Five is based solely on academic standing in high school study. Sharing top honors in a class of 31 were Danny Rieke and Vivian Svestka. Danny's plans for the future included pursu- ing a career in accounting at the University of Arkansas or SCA. Viv- ian looked forwards to a degree in architecture or journalism at the University of Arkansas. Ranked third, Lisa Wy1ie's goals included plans for work toward a degree in accounting at Ouachita Baptist University. Eddie Pitonyak and Janice Holmes, fourth and fifth respectively, felt they could fulfill their goals in out-of-the-class- room fields. Eddie planned to be- come a farmer while Ianice looked forward to becoming a june bride. Top in academics, these students were asked: What changes would further leaming for the majority of students at HHS? Teachers need to give more indi- vidualized attention to students, particularly those requiring more help. That way, if a student does not want to go to college, he or she can take courses which will train them in their desired vocations. Danny Rieke Many of our teachers are expected to teach a full load, including courses they absolutely hate or know nothing about.
