Sandau, D. Walker, M. Huber, J. Chapman. Hazen, this year, reinstated its claim of being a perennial powerhouse in The Missouri Basin Conference. Eight seniors, led by their co-captains, Barry Voeltz and Steve Chase, (pictured at right) formed the bulwark of the attack. The Bison rambled through their first eight opponents without any difficulty. On the last day of the season, when injuries had eaten away the inner core of the team, Washburn's Cardinals journeyed to Hazen to determine the conference champion. With two minutes left in the game, the outcome was still undetermined; then disaster struck in the form of an intercepted pass. The Bison had lost, but could still claim a lion's share of the co-championship they won, because of their effort, determination and the fine traits of citizenship which they displayed in winning or losing. 27

“B” Squad “B” Cheerleaders L. TO R. : Marilyn Mohl, Bonnie Weigum, Nancy Richardson, Gwen Stxandemo and Mary Sailer. The B cheerleaders were a group of girls noted for their loud cheers and crowd inspiring leadership. They followed their team faithfully, and cheered to the final buzzer in either victory or defeat. These girls will be seen as A cheerleaders in years to come. L. TO R. : Robert Cline, Dan Walker, Mike Huber, Jake Eckenrode, Gary Mattheis, Kenny Walter, Steve Huber, Tim Huber, Clyde Miller, Coach Weiser. The Junior Bison, with freshmen starting for the first time in years, had their ups and downs. They started the season on a high note, had a bad stretch through the middle of the season and finished strong. In the annual Halliday B tournament, the team lost its opener to Halliday, but came back strong to crush Stanton in the battle for third place. A squads for several years will be enriched by the talent, Coach Weiser developed on this years B squad.
