FOREWORD Our high school years have come and gone and the Class of ’79 has taken its place in the history of HHS. Mingled with memories of the past is hope for the future. We think of graduation not as an end but as a beginning, a time of going our separate ways to take our places in the world. The Council staff has worked hard this year to compile the memories and good times that HHS has given us. In the years to come, we hope the 1979 Council will bring back all those cherished memories of yesterday. May it always be a reminder of a special friend, an understanding teacher, a big game or a particularly happy day. Most of all, may it help us to remember the time we were young and would never grow old. All students and fellow faculty mem- bers appreciate his sense of humor and dedication. Because he has worked so faithfully in providing pictures of organizations for the yearbook, has attended almost all sports activities, has helped with preparations for the prom, home- coming, and Christmas floats, and has been faithful in super- vising the junior stand, the staff of the 1979 Council proudly dedicates this yearbook to Mr. Wilburn Simmons. 4 ORGANIZATIONS You shall enter the living shelter of the forest. You shall walk where only the wind has walked before. Nancy Newhall STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council members pic- tured above helped make the annual football homecoming parade and dance a success. The queen and maids rode on the float in the parade downtown. Then during the game against Malden the float served as a plat- form for the royalty. 6 4 OFFICERS From from to back — Mashella Williams, Recording Secre- tary; Kay Khourie. During the summer of 1978 the girls attended a one-week clinic in Jonesboro, Arkansas. During this time the girls were taught many new things such as tumbling, pom pom routines, and new cheers. During the week they competed with many schools and received one outstanding ribbon, one excellent ribbon and three superior rib- bons. In the fall of 1978 they traveled to Caruthersville to compete in the cheerleading contest at a peanut festival. The group received first place. These girls are proud of their school and have been happy to support the Hayti Indians throughout the past year. 15 PERFORMING CHOIR Row I — L to R — Ethel Thomas. Carol Mason. Kay Moore.
