Whitner The 1986-1987 school year was one of the best for both the Band and the Choir. This new year has proven that “the best just keep getting better.’’ The Choir will end up being better than last year’s, as the students are performing more difficult music and per- forming at a higher level. The marching Band had one of its most successful seasons, starting with a Division I trophy at the Wyth- eville Band Competition and finishing the year with a Division | trophy at the McChesney Band Festival. This group has been one of Haysi’s finest bands yet, showing pride and spirit at every activity. The leader- ship of the nine Seniors has been important and they will be missed. The Tigers finished the year with a 9-2 record, the second best season in the Tiger’s his- tory. Teamwork was the key both offensively and defen- sively as the Tigers rolled on to a Region D Playoff berth, and at one time held a sixth place ranking in the state. The team will be graduating fourteen seniors this year, who will be greatly missed. We will be looking forward to the same kind of exciting play from next year’s team. The class of '88 will remember with pride their ac- complishments. From the hot summer practice to the wind-chilled days of November, this team will trea- sure their days on the grid iron. These seniors have been B.D.D. champions twice in the last three years. They will leave H.H.S. as Champions. May their foot- ball success follow them throughout life. Due to hard work and dedication, the 1987 Tigers baseball team returned to regional competition. This accomplishment was led by a group of ambitious seniors: Brian Fuller, Billy Mullins, Hubert Sweeney, Randy Hill, Kevin Counts, Chris Lowery, and Roland Edwards. Highlighting the season was a !-O victory at Hurley led by the pitching of Randy Hill (one hitter) and a solo homerun by Eric Counts. The upcoming 1988 season is one that is looked upon with high expectations due to the return of some key players. Leading the Tigers will be Eric Counts, T.J. O’Quinn, and Scott O’Quinn. The strength of this team will be hitting; the one problem area is the lack of a pitcher returning with game experience. One task for the Tigers will be to mount a challenge for St. Paul, a team which is returning with some key players.
