The Dedication This year the Journalism Staff would like to ac- knowledge a person that is admired a great deal by ev- eryone. There is always that special smile and un- derstanding that everyone depends upon. He is a per- son that goes out of his way to try and help any- way he can. It is for these reasons and many more that the Journalism Staff of 1985- 86 proudly dedicates ‘““Above and Beyond’’ to you, Mr. Jimmy Smith. Mr. Smith shows off his friendly smile. : Mr. Smith doing what he does best. Is Mrs. Colley catching flies from Mr. Smith’s Biology II experiment? Seniors of Haysi High School, I would like to congratulate you on your educational accom- plishment. You have reached one of life’s many milestones and have prepared yourself for more to come. You can consider yourself successful at this point in your life. Remember that life is full of failures and the one that learns from his failures is the most successful. There is a tremendous amount of individual potential in the class of 1986. It may possibly be the most intellectual class that has ever graduated from Haysi High School. I encourage each one of you to develop to your fullest potential and to seek that most distant goal. I am proud of the class of 1986 and offer you the above advice for your benefit and for the benefit of Haysi High School. David C. Yates, Principal I would like to take this opportunity to con- gratulate the Senior Class of ’86 for its contribu- tion to the school. You have set the standards and exhibited talents that will set the pace for years to come. I would also like to congratulate you on your extra-curricular activities. The Class of ’86 has shown enthusiasm and achieved goals both in and out of the classroom, above and beyond expecta- tion. It has been a privilege and honor to work with such students as yourselves. I hope you will per- severe in your desires to achieve the better things in life. We will never forget the impact this class has had upon us, and we hope that in turn, we have helped to improve on each and everyone’s outlook on life. Robert Musick, Asst. The team, led by seniors Mike Mullins, Dewayne Stanley, Mark Mullins, Jeff Colley, Chris Yates, Denver Owens, and Ritchie Turner, reached the regional finals before bowing out to St. Paul by a score of 6-3. The seniors also finished with the school’s four year overall record which was 50-22.
