Also we have been given a choice of four different kinds of milk. Students report that lunch is better than ever, and the proof is those long lunch lines. Thanks, ladies, for a job well done. Ronald Thomas played on my first winning season team as an offensive guard and a defensive linebacker. I was close to that group of boys; you can't always remember the scores of the games, but you can remember the kids like Ron. His attitude and his good nature was coupled with his willingness to get out on the field and compete — these qualities made him well-liked and a leader among his teammates. They put the football boys’ spirits in high victory and kept the students’ aware of all the sports’ hap- penings’. They have worked long hours to prepare for games and pep rallies. They cheered the team on to many winning games and helped them accept defeat while always keeping their “Tiger Spirit” Varsity Football Cheerleaders: Left to Right — Lisa Thomas, Raetena Fink, Delinda Thomas (Gaptain),.Lacretta Willis, Wrenda Barton, and Amy Sutherland. Our mighty Tigger the Tiger, Rita Thomas, was always in a winning mood; she had that “Tiger Spirit.” She was there to cheer the Tigers on to victory and to keep the tans cheer- ing for their team. In the three years that Coach Deel has been coaching the J.V.’s he has lost only three games. This year, using the strong throwing arm of Judy Perrigan, the quickness of Mary Powers and the agility of the rest of the team they were able to finish the season with a record of 21 wins and 0 losses. This is the best record ever obtained by a Haysi Team. What a grand team they will be when they play on the Varsity Team. Centers; Leasha and Angie The 8th grade girls’ basketball team, which was coached by Mr. Bobby Deel, won all the games that were played this year. Haysi’s boys basketball season was originally scheduled for December 1, but was delayed until the 16th, be- cause of a long football season. The team worked well together and their goal was the District Championship. There were seven seniors and seven juniors on the varsity team, and nine which stood six feet tall and over. Mr. Larry Compton was the coach of the varsity team, with Mr. Butch Kiser as his assistant. Mr. Ronnie Compton coached the junior varsity and 8th grade. This year has proven to be a win- ning season, because of the exper- tence of these fine coaches and the hard work and determination of the team. She has sponsored the Art Club for the past two years. She says it has been a difficult club to get started, but one of the major reasons for joining is that you learn new and different kinds of cratts. The Art Club was the most creative club in the school. The club was not as big this year as it has been in the past because the students had to dress up for initiation on Halloween, and they also sponsored Halloween Dress-Up Day for the rest of the school. Th e members of the club were very hard and dependable workers. They did various crafts such as create Ojojedios, prepared baked Christmas tree ornaments, worked with macrame, oven ceramics, and linolium blockprints. They also sponsored their annual Art Club Fair held in the Spring. Being an an- nual staff member wasn't al- ways fun and games, but we never expected it to be an easy job. Many times we were forced to come face to face with our- selves, and didn't always like what we saw. Still, we learned to work, achieve, and perform in unbelievable harmony. So often when the demands became more persistant, our tempers flared leaving hurt feel- ings and tears. But then, that’s all a part of living ... a part of growing up. At the end of the journey the 18 members of the annual staff worked closely with one another as sisters and brothers would. As with a fam- ily, we've learned to share our thoughts, our emotions, and most importantly, our love. In the process of creating Sil- houettes we have found seasons of ourselves. We give this book to you in hopes that it will pro- vide memories, reflections, and dreams of an unforgettable year. It’s over. Finished. There’s nothing else we can do. Our year as co-editors of the 1980 Silhouettes has come to an end. At one time being editors of the year- book felt like an eternity, but now that the end is near, we wish this year could go on forever. Being editors of this year- book wasn't easy, but we didn't expect the creation of a dream to happen over- night. There were days when our tears and fears of failure were overwhelming, but somehow we forced ourselves to keep a bright smile that overruled even our worst problems. We worked as one, yet tried to express our individuality throughout the pages of Silhouettes. We've found that on many occasions being editors of a book as important as this brought about many challenges, which at times were almost insoluble. Yet, we were able to establish and maintain a lasting friendship and deep respect between us. For some, this would have been impossible, but to us becoming | “sisters” was one of the greatest accomplishments of this yearbook. | Without the time and concern of so many interested people, this yearbook would have never made it to the | press. At this time we would like to show our greatest appreciation to the following: Mr. David Yates, for bearing with us through the year and all the little tid-bits of advi that showed he cared. Mr. Ronnie Bartley, for signing so many passes for us to get much needed goodies and for his winning | smile which made favors easy to ask for. Mr. Danny Boring that tall, dark, and handsome annual representative, for helping us create this yearbook and be- ing himself — a terrific kind of guy (with a girlfriend!!') We also owe many thanks to: “Mr. Ss Bill” Wright for our “Class of 80 pic- tures. Mr. and Mrs. Don Askins for their beautiful scenic pictures used throughout the pages of our annual. Mr. Andy Turner for attending all those games and providing great action shots for our yearbook. Lisa’s dad, Mr. Paul Owens, for developing some of her pictures for us. Tri- State pictures for “rushing” everything, and Charlie, Mr. Photographer, for putting up with lots of loud mouths and sloooow cheerleaders. To Miss Collins and the ‘80 Sil- houettes Secrael =i thank-you, for being the won- ad erin hardwork- | } ing, ambitious, crazy people you are, and for being a part | our life. We can only hope that during the future years, that our dream can be you key to unlock memories of days gone b 152 The lights go out and we leave for the last time. After all, it’s time to say Goodbye. 3 1720 01403 2128 hey « Pee ee, + SS. Ss pet %.
