Photography i .that’s the theme of our 75 annual. The dictionary definition of REBIRTH is change and revival. That is what we have tried to do this year . ... to revive and create new ideas for the year¬ book. We wanted to present a different, creative, and hopefully better yearbook. The times are changing, feelings are changing, moods are changing . . . .and most of all ... . YOU are changing. A new name, new ideas, new designs from cover to cover .... symbolize REBIRTH.a new beginning. From all of us .... to all of you .... This is our CREATION. Walkin’ down this rocky road Wonderin’ where my feet are goin’ holdin’ on till the end. Finding out along the way What it takes to keep from changing. You should know how it feels. I am the same Life’s just a game I chose to play. My only light keeps fading, blindly searching For a new beginning. Many miles and many tears have finally brought Rebirth. Now I’m on my feet again As different things begin to happen Letting life blossom on its own. The times I had brought many changes and I’ve finally made it. So I picked up my memories and walked on. Don’t let anyone tell you I’m not a Country Bumpkin.” 4 (SPIRITWEEKSPIRITWEEKSPIRITWEEK We’re behind you team, and we’re backing you up!! Queen and her Court. 6 Spirit had been building up for the past week—just for this night. Corsages, poster making, pep rallies, and decorating for the dance gave everybody that “win- nin’ feelin’”. The homecoming court was chosen and the band was busy preparing their half time show. The team really put forth the effort and the half time score was 0-0. The five Seniors leaving can remember their last homecoming game with pride. Coach Kiser kept the spirit alive .... and like a dream come true .... 14-6 . . . WE WON!!!! UP, UP, AND AWAY!! Not tonight, Titans, Not tonight!! Umm, Umm, Good!! Practice for the band began early in the year, as newcomers learned and the experienced tried to remember. H.H.S. Marching Band Revived Mr. Bruce Rush, the new director, has really gotten the band in shape and back on its feet. This is the first year in AGES that the band has been playing and marching at the football games. This year they also performed in the Xmas parade and other activities, led by head majorette, Sandy Presley. HAYSI HIGH SCHOOL ©s’ BAND fs] - HAYSI VIRGINIA The school is very proud of our marching band and their efforts to rebuild. 8 MS £ Tigerettes Claim Second Place in District Our theme began to catch fire as we watched a quickening of the Haysi Tigerettes. It’s a new ballgame, some new superstars, and a new ex¬ citement! Girls Basketball is on the rise again at H. H. S. With a great team of girls and a good coach, the Tigerettes finished the season with a record of 13- 1, placing them 2nd in the Clinch Valley District. This year District. . . next year who knows! On to bigger and better things. While at Haysi, the visiting committee stayed at beautiful Breaks Interstate Park. This was a new experience for the committee. They had to learn how to drive along our win¬ ding roads, between the chug-holes, and how to get out of the way of movin’ coal trucks—fast!! Evaluation—probably the most talked about subject at school this year. Like our new name, our theme, like our whole annual . . . it’s new and different. In April every aspect of our school underwent evaluation. Months and months were spent in hard work and preparation, and the evaluating committee arrived. A time of testing . . . and we survived. Evaluation Comes To H.H.S. Miss Evans, as usual, active in preparing for evaluation. Beginning of a meeting . . . and . . . after the meeting. If you take my picture one more time . . . After several years of absence of a Drama dept.—Speech-n-Drama is back again! The Speech-n-Drama class has been cleaning, repairing, rebuilding, painting and making flats, and designing sets for the Talent Show. All year long everyone has really worked hard in preparation for their children’s play “The Troll Who Believed in People.” Now that the Drama dept, is back on its feet, high hopes and big plans are in store for next year. opening night .... fear and ex¬ citement .... “Do I look O.K.??? . . . cue cards . . . flats . . . smiles . . . . We’ve worked hard and we think it’s pai off. We’re very proud of our CREATION for 75. But we take even more pride in the fact that we had the privilege working with such a marvelous person as Mrs. Slusher. Without her, our CREATION would not have been poss ble. We certainly made our fair share of mistakes, but she was always there to help make them right again. An with her presence was always that wonderful sense of humor and genuine g low of warmth and understanding. S to you Mrs. Slusher we’d like to say: “Thanks” for putting up with us and for helping us make our CREATION a success. But most of all, THANKS FO BEING YOU. tUE I CUE UOI Kathy: As editor of the paper I would just like to say . . . Debbie: Wait Mi Slusher, I know if I think long enough I’ll be able to say “something” goc about you. Tony: Sorry can’t talk now, gotta finish this deadline. Sandy: f Mrs. Slusher, I’ve not gone beserk just because we’re a little behii schedule, I just like ink pens. Reva: You can’t make me say anything abo “her” and forfeit my “A” this six weeks. 16 stunents Dieia “Administration” is a word of many meanings. To some it means assigned study halls and no more smoking in the bathrooms. But to others the Ad¬ ministration is the direction of all school-related activities. The chief figure in the smooth operation of the school is our principal, Mr. Erdman Mullins. Behind the scenes he handles parent con¬ ferences, faculty meetings, school board decisions, and the technical aspects of running a high school. In keeping with the smooth operation of the school, he has been open to student suggestions. Several new policies have been instigated, some of which are the new student handbook, up-to- date dress code, and the new 10-day attendance policy. Another key factor in the smooth operation of our school is our assistant principal, Mr. Finis McCoy. Always in a cheerful mood, Mr. McCoy assists with the numerous office difficulties, and yet still manages to relate to student problems. In addi¬ tion to his office duties and concerns, Mr. McCoy also teaches an English class. Mr. McCoy is always on hand to listen to com¬ plaints, to explain and help with problems, and to just generally be there when he’s needed. On behalf of the entire school, the students would like to let you know that we appreciate your help and concern. We sincerely extend to you the best of everything that life has to offer. • M JW .. - administration I guidance l Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Negatha Powers, is more than an advisor — she has been the friend that many students needed. As an advisor, Mrs. Powers listens to individual problems and offers her opinions and direction. As a counselor she is involved in student difficulties, and as a friend she is always ready to help or just listen. But with all these changes there are still a few things that remain the same, like devo¬ tion to a single goal. Our goal, putting out the 1975 yearbook, would never have been possible without many people. These people I would like to thank. Thanks to: . . . Mrs. Slusher whose understanding and patience got us through the year. . . our parents for putting up with us . . . the faculty for not losing their cool when we in¬ terrupted their classes so many times . . . and the administration and student body for their support . . .
