. The publication of the Thunderbolt signifies the close of another year ' s history of Haysi High School. We have enjoyed compiling this edition of our yearbook because we realize that we have preserved for you treasured memories of classmates, teachers, activities, and all that has been a part of our active school days. The 1963 Thunderbolt is a record of the past which we hope you will take with you into the future and reflect upon with pleasure. a ucs£ ' Co- Editors Table of Contents Dedication Administration, Faculty and Staff Classes Organizations Athletics Advertisements Dedication Because for over 29 years you have given your time unselfishly to the students of Dickenson County; Because every student of Haysi High, whether he has or has not had you as a teacher, appre- ciates deeply the service you have rendered to the school; Because we want to show the gratitude of Haysi High to one who has always acted with friendship and tolerance toward all, we, the Thunderbolt Staff of 1963, affectionately dedi- cate our yearbook to you. Mrs. Mary Cain A man who is . . . Never too busy to help us with our problems; Never too busy to talk to us; Never tires because of his sincerity; Never too busy to do something for Haysi High; Never fails to admit his mistakes, which makes us less ashamed of our own; because of your willingness in doing these things, we proud- ly dedicate this issue of the Thunderbolt to you. May you so live that your parents and teachers will be proud of you. My best wishes for your continued success in the years ahead. Sincerely, Paul W. Skeen Principal’s Message Dear Seniors, You have now passed an important milestone in life, and it is time to call on you to summarize your achievements and to consolidate plans for the future. The diploma you receive will open the door of opportunity to positions that are not available to fellow students who dropped by the wayside. Your perseverance will pay dividends. Before you find your place in our ever-changing society more education and plenty of hard work are in store; and you must determine the proportion needed to reach your goal. The faculty and I will follow your progress with interest and anxiety. May God be with you. Sincerely, Our Helpful Helpers i I Time is nearing when you will graduate from Haysi High School. This will be the beginning for you to take a new place in society. Some will choose to continue your education in college or trade school; others will seek a job. Regardless of what you do after leaving high school, you will find there will be new responsibilities that you must accept in order to succeed in life. May you plan your future wisely in the field of your interest. I am glad to take this opportunity to thank the annual staff for this year’s edition of the Thunder- bolt. Hay Farewell This group of seniors represents a small but important part of the world ' s popula- tion. We have tried to hold aloft the torch of knowledge that was lit for us by our forefathers, and we are thankful to Almighty God for the opportunity to learn and to go on learning throughout life. To our student friends left at Haysi High, we admonish, Hold high the torch and hand it down to others still lit and burning brightly. To our teachers, a heartfelt thank you and deep within us lies the knowledge that you will always be appreciated and never forgotten.
