Even though you have labored under great handicaps these five years, you have come through with flying colors, and I am justly proud of you. It is my hope that you will continue to go forward to meet the challenge of the hour and may success reward your every effort. This year’s issue of The Thunderbolt is a worthy successor to all the productions that have preceded it, and I am sure that all the readers will join me in hearty congratu- lations to this year’s staff. Best wishes always, M. Tarwater, Principal 4

To one whose untiring and unceasing devotion to the betterment of our school and the advance- ment of its pupils has made her a favorite among students and faculty alike; To one whose sapient counseling, exalted lead- ership, warm personality and personal sacrifices have endeared her to everyone who has come into her orbit; To one whose guidance and tutelage have been an inspiration to us, we, the graduating class of 19 54, with pride, gratitude and appreciation, re- spectfully dedicate this annual, the Thunderbolt, to our class sponsor, Mrs. Negetha G. Powers. — 3 —

aaaaa plWiriKTm iaa2!3iBggaiii Our School — its friendly walls hold fond memories of happy hours, cherished friendships, serious endeavor and lasting achievement. We, the last class to graduate from the old building, are happy to complete our courses within the walls that we entered five years ago for there is a spirit and a tradition that lingers and permeates each nook and corner and we feel that we have helped to establish it. SCHOOL SONG In the shadows of the mountains Reared against the sky Stands our dear old Haysi High School As the years go by. Sound the chorus, speed it onward We will never fail Hail to thee, our Haysi High School Hail to thee, all Hail! In thy halls we formed our friendships Dear old High School home And to thee we pledge our hearts Never more to roam. — 5 —
