The Seniors remembered their pasts when Rhonda Hockett presented a slide show with the Theme from Mahogany and Believe It or Not for background muse. They laughed with guest speaker Rex Cisler as he reminisced about his high school days and cried when Mrs. Roll, their Kindergarten teacher, reminded them of all the little things that they did when they were young. We will always be reminded of the Senior Class when we hear these words: We are the future. Looking out on the past. We are the present. Making old things last. We are tomorrow, Thinking of yesterday. We are today. Do- ing things our way! 1. Mr Bruce YoasI presenting the diplomas to the graduates. 2 ludy Hayes, Doug Hays, Scott Hicks, and Rhonda Hockett 3. In hopes of helping the lost seniors. Dr. Shaw created a time machine. With thanks to Cook Kirk (whose homemade brownies fueled the machine), Dr. Shaw departed on his journey. As the Machine came to a halt, he found himself outside a cave in 1700 B.C. On his monitor, he observed, to his astonishment, a pack of wild Neanderthat beast men emerging from a cave. First to come out was their leader, an inhuman-like creature, Monty Fredrickson. He dragged his mate, Roxy lames, close behind. Following their leader were four more ape people: the great hunter Danny Dimmick, Val Williams with her pet lizard, and farther behind, standing by a mysteriously looking bush, was Kammey Whitaker who fired up what was apparently the world's first peace pipe. Meanwhile, Scott Hicks painted a Tyrannosaurus Rex on the cave wall. Certainly there was no hope for these seniors and probably none of the others, but Dr. Shaw would not give up his search. Moving forward in time, Dr. Shaw came to rest on a great coliseum; the year was 150 A.D. Down in the arena, he observed a pack of ferocious lions waiting for their meal. Their meal was two Christians: the Holy Mike Coziahr and Father Steve Vair, who were being thrown into the arena by the mighty gladiator, lay Hayes. While pigging out on grapes, the Emperor Yancy Earle watched this gruesome performance. To his side sat the beautiful Empress Sheila Lewis and the king's trusty philosopher, David Aristotle Lindsay. Fanning the royalty with a huge palm leaf was the sly and mischievous servant, Selina Walker. To spare himself from the sight of this dreadful act, the Doctor zoomed forward in time. The next stop was Tombstone, Arizona, 1870 A.D. Dr. Shaw found himself on a backstreet of an old western town. He could hear a disturbance in a nearby building and decided to get out of his time machine to check it out. While walking around to the front of the building, he saw that it was a saloon: Ford's Mercantile and Saloon. Inside, the ruckus was being caused by Sheriff Jeff Bricker who was trying to apprehend quick-draw Carl Dorrell. Quick- draw had already gunned down three rats and a whiskey bottle. In the corner of the bar, Father Todd Dubois gave the dead rats their last rites. Ignoring the raging battle, the saloon girls, Airhead'' Angie Halloway, Dingy” Donna McDowell and Loony Lisa Scheib waited on Larry Booco, a cowboy from out of town. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, came Buffalo Betty |o Fagg on her Moped called Flame. These incredible sights scared the professor in- to leaving immediately. He re-emerged in the town of Hayden, on Friday the 13th, 1988. The streets were as desolate as usual, but something was wrong. In the gutter he saw an old newspaper, the headline read: Tom Parkin escapes from Hayden Mental Ward. The article went on to talk about the recent attacks on several town residents. First was Zanny Zable (Troy), Hayden's hairstylist who was apprehended with a can of Alberto V05. The School's P.E. teacher, Kristy Copeland had a narrow escape from being smothered by her students' dirty socks. Evil Knivel (Der- ron Shook) suffered minor injuries after an explosion, due to pomegranate Koolaid in his gas tank. While leaving for a high school wrestling match, Mike Fredrickson suffered acute fumigation from his car. The worst incident of all was Debbie Williams who was suffocated by a cream-filled Hostess Twinkie. Fortunately, the madman was taken into custody before he could bring harm to Judy Hayes. Saddened, but not discouraged, the Doctor leaped for- ward in time. Landing on a planet in the year 2525, he could see a battle going on between Z-Man, alias Darren Zehner, and Captain Curk Dunckley who was assisted by his companions in crime, Greedy Green (Tina) and Evil Earl (Tammy). Observing from a window of a 25-story building was Rhonda Lois Lane” Hockett. Meanwhile, another battle was being fought in a nearby alley. Wino Williams (Mike) was fighting with a local garbage collector (Scott Blomquist), over scraps from the hotdog factory. Finally, discouraged about his failure to return the class of 83, Dr. Shaw returned home. 29 We Don't Need No Education Bottom row L-R: Scott Blomquist, Curk Dunckley, Larry Booco, Darren Zehner, Doug Hays, Danny Dimmick, Vancy Earle, Lisa Scheib Second row: Donna McDowell, Michelle Ozbun, Sheila Lewis, Angie Holloway, Debbie Williams, Mike Williams, Mike Fredrickson, Monty Fredrickson, Roxy lames Third row: Mike Coziahr, Milburn Markle, David Lindsay, Todd DeBois, Scott Hicks, Jay Hayes, Jeff Bricker, Judy Hayes Fourth row: Tom Parkin, Steve Vair, Mike Ford, Troy Zabel, Betty Jo Fagg, Vatorie Williams, Tammy Earle. Clubs, Bands, publications and groups offer everyone a chance to excel in their own special interests. In 1982, Hayden students used their imagina- tions and talents to make this year an enjoyable one. Let's Work Together NHS National Honor Society students must have at least a B average or a 3.0. Selection is based on qualifica- tion of scholarship, leadership, ser- vice and character. To be inducted this year students had to write a let- ter of intent to a panel before being considered to induction. STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council represents the student body and coordinates school functions. It over sees and approves extra curricular class activities. It also sponsored a Welcome Back School Dance, Homecoming, and Winter Sports dance. They also had a movie before Christmas break. The group was particularly suc- cessful this year at handling the ordering of goods for the concession stand and setting up new rules for concessions. 1. On May 28th they all packed up and left for sunny California for their band trip. They all worked very hard selling everything from pizzas to crystals to raise the $9,000 dollars for the trip. They arrived back home on June 9th. During the 1982-83 school year they participated in Large Croup, League Honor Band, Solo and Ensemble. Then to finish an ex- cellent year they took a band trip to Denver in May. They went to see the Denver Symphony play and to perform with the Wheatridge High School Band. Choir The song Take Time For Love could be heard throughout the audience as the Hayden Choir performed at the Solo and Ensem- ble contest held at Socorro. The Choir began the year with a new teacher. Miss Molly Huber came to Hayden in October replacing the former choir teacher Kathy Hill. During the year the choir took part in many activities such as: a choir clinic in Steamboat a Christmas and Spring perfor- mance, and League Honor Choir also Baccalaureate. The Choir learned a great deal by perform- ing with as many as 300 other students from other schools. This motto characteriz- ed the Hayden yearbook staff. Having little or no experience in such a produc- tion, the staff began the year by atten- ding a regional workshop held in Craig. They quickly realized it was going to be lots of hard work, togetherness and determination to make them succeed. Still, there was one more thing, COST! In order to finance the year- book, the staff sold a couple thousand dollars in ads to local businesses. They also sold mugs and pennants at home athletic events. Ah, last but certainly not least, was the photography class. For them, taking pictures and developing them all the same day before a deadline was common. They too, will have fond memories! The 1982-83 school year brought in new cheerleaders with lots of en- thusiasm, which proved to be rewar- ding. This year, for them, was a year of challenge, learning new cheers, practicing routines, attending cheerleading camps and even cheer- ing for the Denver Nugget's Half- time show. The fans were delighted seeing them do routines to The Eye of the Tiger and Working for the Weekend. It required lots of time and enthusiasm, which all of the girls will be remembered for. 1. So throughout the year, they continue to decorate lockers and learn new cheers, performing drills were another fun experience for them. Although it was time consuming, they said they had a good time. 121 Inside 122 Oh Greg!!
