CLASS HISTORY We'll begin at the beginning where all good stories should start. We came to the first grade, some of us, a wee bit scared, but found it such a happy place conducted by Miss Wilson, (now Mrs. Sumner Hockett) that all our terrors soon disappeared. The members of that courageous little group who are still with us today include Beverly Ann Erwin, Marline Chavis, Bobette Summer, Ronald Zehner and Verta Jo Ledford. We had several plays that year. The second year no one new joined us, but we had interesting work with Miss Vetesk as our teacher. The third year we had a lot of fun with art under the supervision of Mrs. Blake. We gave a play The Lost Penny. Dollie Kline joined our class that year. The fourth year we went up the stairs we had been looking forward to climbing for three years, and took our places with Mrs. Fulton »s our teacher. Ardlene Allen and Joe Clark joined our class that year, but Verla Jo left us. We gave a play called When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again. We also had a big picnic at the end of the year. In the fifth grade we had a lot more fun. We especially liked the fire drills when we could slide down that fascinating fire escape. Mrs. Temple was our teacher and we welcomed Daniel Sanchez to our class. Again we hao a school picnic the last day of school. The sixth year brought a decided feeling of our importance since we were now the senior group at Edison School. Our class was enlarged by the addition of Audree Cottrell and Jack Eudy. Verla Jo rejoined us that year. Mr. Kronke was our teacher. We prepared a work on South America and gave an exhibit of many different articles from South American countries. It was a very successful year and we were all eagerly looking forward to our migration to HUHS and our entry into the seventh grade. When that long looked for day finally came, we found our number increased by Bessie Benson, Marchetta Harper, Marygrace Hinkle, and Beryle Rienks. Miss Rominger was our sponsor, but instead of one teacher, we had to adjust ourselves to several teachers in a depart- mental system. We soon learned to like the change and felt very big to be in with the high school. No one new joined us in our eighth grade, but we found it to be a very happy and pleasant year. With Mr. Fleig as our sponsor, we graduated on the afternoon of May 19, 1948. We were now ready to become mighty Freshmen. This year we witnessed a great change in our school days. First we had to prove ourselves worthy to be high school students by the traditional Freshman Initiation. We chose our class motto, flower, and colors that year, and we elected the following officers: President. Albert Watts; Vice President, Connie Zorn; Secretary-Treasurer, Marline Chavis; Student Council Representatives, Charles Hindman and Marchetta Harper. Carl Kruger from Pleasantview joined us this year, as did Connie Zorn, Jim Gazewood and Don Rolando and several others from Mt. Harris. Connie, Jim and Don are the three Mt. Harris members of our class who have been with us all four years. Mr. Reagan was our sponsor.

During our Sophomore year Donna Moxon was our only newcomer. Mr. Ongaro was our sponsor. We chose the following officers: President. Beryl Rienks; Vice President. Connie Zorn; Secretary-Treasurer, Marchetta Harper; Student Council Representatives. Ardlene Allen and Joe Clark. We did not have any additions to our Junior class, but we did find it to be a very eventful year. First we got our class rings, of course, we think they are something to brag about. We gave our first class play Balmy Mr. Brown which enabled us to give a very successful Prom. The gym was beautifully decorated and carried out our theme Stardust. Our class officers were: President, Beryl Rienks; Vice President, Carl Kruger; Secretary, Marchetta Harper; Treasurer, Marline Chavis; Student Council Representatives, Connie Zorn and Verla Jo Ledford. Our sponsor was Mr. Lewis. This, our Senior year, we have reached the goal which we have traveled toward for twelve years. We have had a very successful year and a wonderful time. Mr. Reagan has again been our class sponsor. Ira Bowerman was out only new classmate. We elected the following officers: President, Jim Gazewood;Vice President, Ronald Zehner; Secretary, Verla Ledford; Treasurer, Ardlene Allen; Student Council Representatives, Marline Chavis and Ira Bowerman. We gave our class play on March 28, 1952. Our sneak day was well planned and enjoyed by all of us. Baccalaureate services were held on May 11. We graduated on May 14, 1952.
