Jn emoriam JAMES MITCHELL The El Molino staff of 1962 would like to ex- tend a tribute to two wonderful gentlemen. Both were outstanding in every regard, and the amount of time and energy they have given for the bene- fit of the community is incalculable, More person- ally, however, they may be best remembered as the fathers of three outstanding members of the Hawthorne High Student Body-Seniors .lohn Mitchell and Dan McCammon and Sophomore Beth McCammon. James Mitchell will always be thought of with great affection for his generous, selfless service to the community, He is remembered for his exemplary work as a member of our district's Board of Trustees, on which he served from l948 to the time of his death, holding the office of president for three terms, Remembered with equal regard are the twelve years of service he gave to the Wiseburn School Board, serving as president for two terms, He is remembered for his active interest in a variety of youth programs, working briefly with the Little League and pioneering the establishment of a Middle League, only the second of its kind in the entire nation. OLIVER MCCAMMON Oliver McCammon gave his all for the youth of the community. He will be remembered by them as the man who made many impossible things possible for them. Considered one of the leading educational ad- ministrators in the State of California, he estab- lished a unique record in educational circles, in as much as he served the local district as its administrator for eighteen years, Of the community projects with which he was connected, one of the most outstanding is the Hawthorne Youth Camp. , The teenagers of, the area remember him more as one of the menu' behind the Club Gunga Din, on whose board he was an active member. lt is impossible to list all of the contributions of these men to the betterment of the community. Their achievements, however, are to be seen everywhere, and they will remain as permanent reminders of the men whose memory will always be an inspiration to those who knew them,

Our Energetic Administrators, The central figure in our district is Dr, Jefferson L. Garner, who seems to handle simultaneously and with ease the many taxing problems of policy, decision, planning, and public relations that characterize the complex world of school ad- ministration. And yet, amid all the pressure of his demanding duties, Dr. Garner is always able to find time for the personal touch, that rare quality which inspires loyalty and marks the difference between the merely efficient administrator and the outstanding leader. By the smiles on Dr. Garner's and Mr. Nyman's faces, it is evident that all is well on the H.H.S. Campus. Dr. W. R. McDonald, our district's Assistant Superintendent, is an in- dispensable man on our board. Countless decisions and details are handled daily by his office, making the district's administration one of the most efficient. ,.....--,..
