Our Grade Basketball Team The early part of the basketball season last fall found us practicing every noon-hour with at least 15 players turning out. Mr. Hilliard was our coach and taught us many fine points about playing. Getting off to a late start with our first game being December 19th, we were still able to bring in 11 victories and no losses up to the time of the tournament. There February 16 Ladysmith 17-Hawkins 42 ,..... ,.,,..,, T here February 27 Ladysmith 29-Hawkins 33 - Here Then on March 2 we entered the Tony Gold Medal Tournament and defeated our first opponent, Ingram, by the score of 28 to 8. This win placed us in position to play Ladysmith the next evening whom we took easily 33 to 17. The finals on the evening of March 4 found us playing for the championship with Tony and here we received our first loss of the entire season. Being on the short end of a 26 to 30 score, we received' the second place trophy. We are quite proud of our season and wish to thank Mr. Hilliard for his excellent coaching and everyone else for their fine support. The cheer- leaders also deserve much credit for their grand performances at the games.
