For once the classrooms are silent except for the giggles over .elzmir fflllllll' and llvfllldfflillg ll'aIf, These two columns have school-wide appeal. One year the staff decided to leave them out. but that experience was a complete failure. XYith the return of the gossip columns came comical sketches concerning classrooms and imaginary people. These enjoyed a huge success. The literary inspirations of the staff are cen- sored hy the adviser, Mr. Donald Cf Fraser. Then Miss Nlcl.aughlin's type classes type the lttr pastcups it goes to press. and j N perfect copies, one of which is sent to the printing department of the Trade School for the tirst draft. Next comes the exacting task of proof reading and the pasting-up of the columns in the way that they will appear in the Hnished product. Finally the presses roll out the copies which are delivered to homerooms under the supervision of our liusiness manager. Miss Louise Huntington. The staff members do not write for their own standards alone, hut must consider the standards of the Columbia Scholastic Press of which our paper is a member. 1 o operative inspiration - forced or natural. daily bulletin. flSlig BY Bob ht RX: SP0 wysockl ann, Now such an empty spot - Brown and Gold l 1 'ht tl' 4 ly fu' H6 ' Chatter X ' Km ' , latter AA W9 1 P Vik ,T-i t k 1 ANNEx !-'G BRONVN AND GOLD STAFF Standing: Marlene Mangion, Virginia Dyer, Paul Jacobson, Bruce Prescott, Theodora Salmas, Chrysantlie Sovas, Rosalie jonnau, Eleanor Dwyer, Marie Baker, Carol Page, janet Ellis, Gail St. Germain, Lois Keys, Diane Merker, Priscilla Pearson. This is a story of two old maids, .-Xbby and Martha Brewster, lMary Cashman and lilaine Stewartl who poison lonely old men for the pleasure of seeing a smile of peace on their faces, Teddy Brewster lRalph Chapman y, their nephew, imagines himself as Teddy Roosevelt and he buries the bodies in the Panama Canal fthe cellarl as Yellow Fever victims. His entrance onto the stage is preceeded each time by a bugle call, and he departs by leaping up the stairs, yelling 'fCharge! Mattie and Bessie Brewster t:Xclrienne Bonasia and Marie Phanuefj are Teddy's sisters and are equally as crazy. Mattie recalls her past lives. and Bessie enjoys talking to her boyfriend, llerbert, long dead, and invisible to every- one but to her. The only sane member of the Brewster family is Mortimer lDavid Ordwayj. He is in love with the minister's daughter, Elaine Harper tCornelia lolmsonl. Mrs. Harper, her lXKuIrI1t lvlllll, mother, 4 Carolyn XYood l has chatted with the Aunts before about the lovers. XYhen Mortimer finds out about the .'Xlllll5' poisonings, he is forced to tell lilaine that he cannotymarry her because he too might be insane. To complicate matters further, the black sheep' of the family. -Ionatlian Brewster INick Nionakisl, arrives with a plastic surgeon, Dr. Ein- stein lXYilfred Gelinas or james Pavlakisl, who spends his time terrifying the family and the audience. The upholders of the law tRobert XYysocki, Anthony Amari, Vincent Bevilacqua, and Robert Brodyl take .lonathan away. Finally the Aunts commit Teddy and his sisters to an institution, and they decide to go along so theyfwont be separated. Before they go, the .Xunts reveal to Mortimer that he is an adopted child and the two lovers are happy. As the curtain falls, 1 Donald Selvaggiol the director of Happy Dale, the insane asylum, drinks his last glass of the poisoned elderberry wine while the two Aunts watch with glee. We appreciate the many periods these students spend in practice so that we may enjoy their music. The band, in addition to its rousing music at the football games, entertains us at assemblies and rallies. lt would seem strange not to hear soft music as we march into chapel. The orchestra seems to add the tinishing touch and puts us in the proper mood. The Christmas programs and special assemblies are more memorable because of the inspiring music. This year a concert was held in May and selections from The Forest Prirzrr' were enjoyed by the students and the public. Ham. BAND Front Row: D. Yadaboncour. XY. LeBlanc, R. Shepherd. li. Crepeau. P. VVhen the autumn foliage and crisp weather is at its finest, a group of our Haverhill High School boys are seen engaging in the sport of cross country. Under the direction of Coach Charles XVhite, these boys race merely for the sheer love of the game for there is no glory in cross country. It does instill in them, however, spirit, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Led by Captain Gary Pelletier, the team finished with a record of one win, one tie and six defeats.
