mea ig n 9 As this was the first year for wrestling at Hatch, there was a period of trial and error adjustment to a new sport. Upon returning from Christmas vacation the wrestlers were faced with a formidable schedule. For many, the opening match with St. Georges was the first time they had ever seen a wrestling match. Witli the exception of the co- captains, none of the team members had ever wrestled before. This ex- plains the record of eight losses and only a single win. Furthermore, all the teams we wrestled were strong and experiencedg La Salle was the winner of the New England Champi- onships as well as being state cham- pion. Tabor was runner-up for the state championship last year. Despite such strong opponents Hatch man- aged to win three individual matches in each meet. Bob Martin always managed to come up with a fast pin except at Priory where he fought an extremely skilled and experienced opponent. Peter Hawes and Esh Lun- ken usually came through with five points. In the last match, the tables were finally reversed. Hatch beat a team which was its equal in experience and depth. This was the best way we could have ended our otherwise dis- appointing season. The closing match augers well for next year's team, for only the co- captains, Peter Hawes and Bo-b Mar- tin, are seniors and with more ex- tremely competent coaching from Mr. Campana, the returning members will be a strong and seasoned group, and great things can be expected from Lunken, Rabb and Saunders- all fine wrestlers. .
