CLASS COLORS. ....... ...... B lue-White 14 .liar 'UM an .idfamenf We, the Class of 1952 of Hartwick High School, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this our Last Will and Testament. First: We direct that all our survivors retain only pleasant memories of us. Then: To Fred Striesse, John Tubbs leaves his seat on the bus to use to advan- rage. The Seniors leave their homeroom to the Juniors who probably won't use it any more than they did. ' Belle Wart leaves her quiet reserved manner to Pat Hacklin. To Joyce Bresee, Carolyn Block leaves her reserve of boy friends. Larry Russell leaves his ability in Math and his A average to James Renwick. Charles Rollins bequeaths his athletic ability to John Polulech, in hopes that he will "grow" into it. To Robert Mack, Bev Stevens leaves his "jinxed number 24" football jersey, Bill Grosslinger bequeaths his "way" with girls to Dick Hayes. Lastly, we appoint the future president of the incoming Seniors, executor of this our Last Will and Testament. This will, signed, sealed, published and declared by Beverly Stevens. 15 aaa .Maiory The beginning of any class history dates back to the time when its members first began school. The only two in our class who have been permanent fixtures at Hartwick High School are John Tubbs and Carolyn Block who started in the first grade twelve years ago. Beverly Stevens also began school at Hartwick but on reaching the third grade he transferred to Cooperstown Central and did not return until the seventh grade. In the fourth grade they were joined by Larry Russell who had been attending Phoenix Mills District School until that time. Charles Rollins came to us from Hunter, New York in the eighth grade just in time to graduate with the class into High School. On humbly entering the ninth grade K as befits a freshmanj we were joined by Belle Wart who came from Christian Hill School. Under the able direction of Mr. Francis Duncombe our class officers were elected: President, Larry Sussell, Vice Presi- dent, Carolyn Block, Secretary, Margaret Krofft, Treasurer, Beverly Stevens. This year all together was one of peace and contentment - Cexcluding the Freshmen Initiation which almost caused the Class of '52 to be extinct.J We bravely bound up our wounded pride and passed the rest of the year in deep study. We entered our Sophomore year with more confidence and a much broader out- look on school life. Our advisor was Mr. Francis Duncombe and our slate of offi- cers was: President, Larry Russell, Vice President, Belle Watt, Secretary, Margaret Krofft, Treasurer, John Tubbs. This year, though very interesting, was for the most part uneventful. After a glorious summer we came back happy go-lucky juniors who had made up their minds not to study quite so hard. This year we began to think up "money making projects" under the able direction of our new advisor Miss Dorothy Ziegfeld. Dances were the main part of our moncy raising campaign and the highlight of the year was our junior Prom. This year Bill Grosslinger of Laurens Central School joined us and Bill's quick wit and humor did much to enliven the budding junior Class. Our officers this year were: President, Larry Russell, Vice President, Beverly Stevens, Secretary-Treasurer, Belle Watt. It was a wise and worldly-looking group of seniors that entered the halls of Hart- wick High the next year. Our number was only seven but they say that the best things come in small packages. Under the supervision of Miss Dorothy Ziegfeld we elected the following officers: President, Larry Russell, Vice President, Beverly Stevens, Secretary, Belle Watt, Treasurer, Charles Rollins. Some of our activities of the year were dances, selling candy, putting out the Oracle and the Hub, selling ads for the yearbook, selling magazines and holding a raffle. After our wonderful trip to New York we settled down again to study and now we have reached our goal "High School Graduation." 16 3055 MDF QC? As we gaze into our crystal ball we see the class of l952 which graduated in Hartwick ten long years ago. The first image that forms as we peer into the ball is that of a beautiful blonde who is modeling an evening gown for Powers Models Inc. As we take a closer look we see that it is our old schoolmate Carolyn Block who has had a wonderful career in modeling. Next a short red-head comes to our attention. She is astride a galloping broncho and is shootin' up the town. A female bankrobber? Oh, nothing like that. It's only our old pal Belle "Two Gun" Wart as she appears in her latest western movie role. She's really gone a long way in Hollywood. Why, here we are in the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The curtain goes up and the tenor begins his stirring aria. XVho is it? Well, it's our classmate, Larry Russell, who's currently starring in Bizet's "Carmen." He has been singing with the "Met" quite n while and is one of their leading artists. Next we see the interior of the "New behind the desk is none other than Beverly and has worked himself up to the top of the While we're in New York we might as to. see the main event. Charles has his opponent down In another field of sports we find John Tubbs ace-pitcher for the New York Yankees. John has broken all records for pitching no-hit games and also is one of the top Yankee batters. Last but not least we find Bill Grosslinger an oil tycoon living on his spacious Texas ranch. He is a multi-millionaire and lights his cigars with fifty dollar bills. The crystal is beginning to cloud but we have seen what has happened to our class of '52 and we are very happy to see them so prosperous. The tour includes trips to Radio City Music Hall, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and N. B. C. Studios. They are planning to see two Broadway plays and visit Madison Square Garden. Miss Dorothy Ziegfeld, their advisor, and Coach William Dalrymple will chaperon them. Managers were jimmy McGrath and Herbert Schweitzer. The Huskies won three games and lost three finishing in second place in the Tri-valley League. Our team showed an excellent quality of cooperation and sportsmanship. They played their ,last game with il powerful Springfield team on a snow covered field. Hadley, Coach Dalrymple Uardifg gaffefdaf The Hartwick Huskies put together a record that will probably long stand in the annals of H.H.S. They were undefeated in regular season play winning eighteen games and defeated South Kortright in the Eastern Section finals of Section IV. With a 19-0 record, tragedy struck at Norwich against a good Genoa team, the western fi- nalists of Section IV, when the boys in maroon and white dropped a closely contested 57-53 ball game. Thus, as the season's curtain rang down, this year's Huskies were Tri-Valley League Champs, Eastern Division Section IV, Class C, Champs, and run- ners-up in Section IV, Class C Division. Captain Fran Schweitzer and seniors Johnny Tubbs and Chuck Rollins, led the assault this year with 452, 5454, and 208 points respectively for the season. With these three plus Ray Polulech, with his 'excellent guarding and left-hand set shooting ability, Frankie McGrath and Chuck Hadley, adept little guards, Leland Beach, Bill Grosslinger, and Fred Striesse as general all around men, the team was a well balanced outfit all year long. Prospects are fairly bright for next year. The loss of Tubbs Rollins, and Gross- linger is bound to hurt, but several seasoned juniors and Sophomores are ready to fill in and a good year is expected.
