SENIOR CIASS PRUPIIIECY Bang' Bang' I aimed carefully at a duck tit was hunting season in 19517 and lifted my eyes to watch my prey fall Imagine my surprise when in stead of my feathered friend what should land at my feet but a magic carpet' I put out my hand to examine 1t and accidentally stepped on it Whiz' I was off' Over town and country I soared when another report I heard and my little carpet was shot out from under me I fell many miles to the earth and fainted from fnght When Iawoke I found myself in a heavenly bed of Amenca Beauty roses I perceived it to be a nursery and was lust relaxmg in the thomless bed when I was ap- proached by a stout comely matronly little lady At second glance I was sure I was not mistaken it was my old classmate Iva Boyer' Contrary to recollections of earlier days she came toward me vxith an angelic smile plastered on her face The long suffering look she had on her face was put there in view of the fact that she was still waiting for Bob to return from the army maybe he had lie. reasons As vse sat there reminiscma a bit I looked beyond the hills and saw a p1t1ful abode with the sign I could barely read it 1t was so weatherbeaten Mullen Esq Inc Iva explain ed that he had become a hermit and was getting down to the serious business of trying to save his money of course with a slot machine installed 1n P Y there the rest of his queer life Unable to find my magic carpet I bade Iva good bye and started out over the mountains I knew not where I was minding my own business walking on the left side of the road when with a loud screech of brakes a very snappy car pulled up along Slde of me and a freckle face with a col lege freshman cap stuck on a towhead Cor IS it get ting grayl yelled out Want a r1de pal? Im medlately I recognized Glenn Graber and after crawling in I questioned h1m a bit on the cap he was wearing and he very shamefacedly informed me that he was still struggling through his first year of college Latin being the chief drawback We had not driven very long when we came upon a burly young sailor all thumbs with his battered suitcase almost in the middle of the road He was a gruesome sight with anchors and beaut1ful dames tatooed all over his arms and face Of course 1t was none other than Iohnny Dysle on a shore leave and so since we either had to h1t him or pick him up he also crawled in We had travel ed a few more miles when I said I wanted to stop at the very first filling station and get a map We spotted a very prosperous looking one and whiz zed up to the gas pumps We were greeted by a very pretty gas station attendant and after a flash of those famous dimples I recognized Eileen Tess mer She explained that her father had invested in a gas station for her benefit because she always used so much gas running around She liked fill ing up her own car so well that she decided to go into the business in a b1g way You should see all the truck dnvers that stop there' We filled er up and were on our way minus Sailor Dysle and his baggage We soon came to a large metropohs and I informed my friend Glenn that I wanted to get out and have a look around town Again I bade farewell to one of my former classmates and walk ed up Main Street bound to find adventure My ears heard someone singing a broken version of Scrub me Mamma with a Boogie Beat It was only a bedraggled street cleaner but looking a little more closely I saw that it was Dueber Maurer He gu1lt1ly picked up a cigarette butt and slipped it mto his pocket I didnt want to embarass him by stopping to talk so I hurriedly passed on Poor fel low' And he had such a good start in life I decided to Journey over to the newspaper OIII e and put in an ad for a traveling companion some thing I had wanted for a long time I soon spotted my destination and saunte ed in I had just plac ed my ad when I was greeted by a tall somewhat familiar looking woman Upon my word it was Mary Hmerman' She certainly has risen in the world She told me that she had quite a few of her former classmates working under her and in formed me as to who the y were Possibly its the influence of the Business English Class cropping out in thern Above the noise of the press I could hear another familiar voice I was sure I could never mistake B111 Schumacher Sure enr- Agli there he was sitting at a big mahogany desk with his blond bangs hanging over his eyes writing the gossip column with Bernice supplying the dirt Seeing that he was too busy to be bothered l left Mary to her work also and went into the next room There I saw Pauline Stutzman looking like an old maid already writing a lovelorn column called What You re Best Friends Wont Tell You She didnt look as if her own advice had done her any good Maybe she was using her schoolday tactics for write up material I had barely turned away from her when Iheard a deep satisfied chuckle from the other side of the room There sat none other than Louis Susco reading his own yokes I guess he figured somebody had to laugh at them Suddenly I had to stop my browsing around for I heard the loud shriek of the fire siren Iran to the nearest window and just at that moment the long red truck was tearing past at an unearthly rate of speed But through it all I saw a cool determined young fire chieftress standing by the cause tl mean sittmgj The truck was areenmg madly down the street fsimilar to the good old days when we had driving lessonsl when ll stopped with a loud screech of the brakes At that time I took the opportunity to fly out of the building and watch the excitement When I finally plovted through the mob imagine my surprise i . u r - - . ll - I ll I . - P I - I - ' , ' . u I - I I.
