The Players have at¬ tempted to produce a variety of play styles, ranging from Shakespeare to the modern. The major objective of the group is to produce out¬ standing dramas at all times. Currently the players are working on a series of television dramas, the first of which was highly success¬ ful last December over KSBW-TV (Channel 8). |J MACBETH, the first presentation of the year by the College-Community Players, was produced before an enthusiastic audience. Although they did not finish high in the win-and-loss column, the 1956 Pan¬ ther football team did an outstanding job playing one of its toughest schedules in history. They played well and fought hard throughout the season. Injuries contributed largely to the misfortunes of the games, but the team overcame these odds and put on a good show in each and every contest. ED ADAMS Basketball Coach JESS REGLI Assistant Basketball Coach ' GUS ANDERSEN Team Captain This year ' s basketball team played leading junior colleges with outstanding results. One couldTiardly forget the outstanding playing ability of our men — Ron Critchfield was one of the top five scorers in Northern California, Bill Loveless was in the top ten, and Gus Andersen ranked among the top 20 scor¬ ers. Hank Dacuyan played a tight team game considering his size and the ability of opponents. We were fortunate in having many outstanding freshman players—Don Bush, Ron Leonti, Ron Garten, Frank Padilla, Terry Wallace, Ron Brock and Jack Jurian. Sophomores Bill Rodrigues, Ron Jones and Doug Addison added re¬ serve to the squad. Jerry Tollefson was sorely missed at the first of the season due to eligibility problems, and later at the end of the semester, when he transferred to another college. Tipoff time in the Hartnell vs. Hancock game. JULIO VALENTIN Manager The 1957 baseball team has a group of men who are playing their second year of base¬ ball for the college. Augie Scornaienchi as catcher, Jesse Dominguez as pitcher, Joe Jelli- son at first base, Ted Stacey at shortstop, Art Lopez in left field, and Fred Gonzales alter¬ nating between first base and right field, are all finishing up their eligibility as sopho¬ mores at Hartnell. The freshmen who have shown ability thus far are: Ron Garten as catcher, Ron Garvis and Bill Beretta as pitchers, Aubrey Woods, Frank Padilla and Merwin Kehl in the infield, Dave Castro and Jack Hildner in the outfield. Sophomore Bob Woodring, in his first year of baseball play, is giving the regular outfield a rough time for a starting position in right field. With the season already started and seven games played (at press time), the Hartnell Pan¬ thers have won five and lost two encounters. The Panthers may not do so well in the out¬ come of the remaining games but will give every opposing team a stiff battle. In the distance events our two conference cross¬ country champions, George Harris and Bob Kennedy, were leaders all the way in their favorite event. In the field events our pole vault twins, Melvin Kelly and Ivan Hartsell, were unchallenged. In the high jump Ron Ross, Joe Bass and Terry Wallace led the field, as did Don McDowell in the broad jump. Of course, our two weight men, Mervin Anderson and Manuel Miranda, kept us well ahead in their spe¬ cialties, the shot put and discus. We are a little weaker in the running events this season, due to the loss of Wes Bond and Dick Casper, last year ' s greats. But Ricky Axe, Ray Perez, Loren Thomas, Jim Dunson, Don Pittman and Jack Jurian more than filled their places with points in their events. G.
