□ Q The bumpers and spikers of the 87-88 season gave a valiant effort. Even though their season didn ' t ap- pear to be very optimistic. The teams morale sustained and the guidance from their fearless leaders gave them energy and spirit to return and play another day. Team members had to adjust to coaching changes as the season began. Former J.V. coach Estelle Sweeten was elevated to the Varsity position and was replaced by Pam Sample as J.V. coach. Despite the seasons results and adjustments, the sea- son brought new and exciting experience and friendships for team members while enjoying the sport they love. 999129

Led by team captains Craig Chanavier, Pat Neiswinter, and Tom Neu, the Hartland Highs School Wrestling team had a fine season. Motivated by the new coaching techniques of Bill Cain and assistant coach Todd Darling, the team has shown outstanding improvement. Being a young team, the season got off to a slow start but finished strong with a 3rd place trophy at the Dexter Invitational, nine wrestlers qualified for the District Tournament, and four competed in the Regional Tournament at Clio. Craig C„ Tom N., and Dave P. qualified for the Class A State Tournament at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. This years team standouts included: Senior captain Craig Chanavier, undefeated at 105 lbs. at the present time, boasting a 31-0 record and becoming the first Hartland wrestler to hold the title of KVC Champion 3 consecutive years. Junior Captain Tom Neu capturing his 1st KVC Cham- pionship at 138 lbs. with a 42-7 record. Senior captain Pat Neiswinter demonstrating his exceptional all-around athletic ability by becoming a Regional qualifier sprouting a 25-12 record at 198 lbs. and Junior Dave Prain muscling his way to become runner-up in the conference at 145 lbs. with a 25-17 record. Criag C, Tom N., and coach Bill Cain are the only three Hartland Wrestlers ever to be selected for the Flint Area All-Stars Wrestling Team. Underclass Hopefuls for next year include: Tom Neu, Dave Prain, Maurice Connelly, Steve Robinson, Todd Cheney, Marty Gross, Chad Frazier, and Chad Brennan.
