SKI TEAM Swooshing down the slopes Do you remember those days when we got blankets of snow, when school was canceled and almost all after-school activities were called off? You were prob- ably snug as a bug in a rug at home while members of Hartland ' s ski team were out in the frigid weather, at- tempting to beat the odds that were against them. As a first year team, coached by Rich Kujala, Hartland did exceptionally well compared to the more experienced teams in their league. The boys placed 6th out of eight teams, while the girls placed 7th out of eight teams at the League competition. Their team will become stron- ger in years to come, because of the great talent of the underclassmen on the team. Some things our first year racers will never forget are: Fancy pants, flannels, June 9th, get loose, Rich, straddling gates, sing skis, deeking (DQ), Kirby piles, awesome muchachos and rockdogs. 9m Q£p123

Led by captains Sandy Smith and Bon- nie Kittle (The Twin Towers), the 1987 girls basketball team had a fairly success- ful season. Coached by Don Benham, the girls placed 4th in the KVC with a 5-5 record, and a 12-11 record over all. Beat- ing Pinckney 54-43, and taking first place in districts were not the only highlights of the season. The girls season was at a peak when Hartland ' s hungry archrivals, the Brighton Bulldogs, came to contend with the mighty Eagles. Prior to the game, the Dogs chanted KVC in the locker- oom, and pounded on the lockers. But as the game came to a close the Dogs be- came silent, as Hartland trounced upon them 55-46. 099
