ACTIVITIES Through the years there were VBPIOUS clubs 1n Hartland H gh School Some of them were The GIRLS LITERARY CLUB was very a t1ve Th s club gate g1rls an opportumty to tram 1n publ1c speakmg ssay wr1t1ng and the study of llterature In the WOODROW WILSON LITERARY SOCIETY boys who were nterested ln speakmg were enabled to learn to express themselves 1n a defmlte correct manner The YMCA was started to create a feelxng of brotherhood among the young men ln the Hlgh School and the GIRLS BASKEIBALL TEAM was founded to create 1ec1ea1on or the glrls Some of the teams they played were from Waterloo Lodx M nomonee Falls Cudahy and Palmyra The ORCHESTRA was dlrected by a vlsltlng 'Instructor It had 26 members One ol the1r act1vt1es was a summer ampmg trlp for two weeks and a June con ert Another muslcal organlzatxon was the GIRLS GLEE CLUB It provlded recreatxon tor he members plus enjoyment for the townspeople The GERMAN BAND was organlzed ln 1947 and con slstcd of a few p1eces Later It was formed xnto what we call the PEP band The CAMERA CLUB started out as one of the mo st successful clubs ever orgamzed There were so many nembers that It had to be spllt up and met twlce a week It taught the members the fundamentals of photog raphy and to develop the1r plctures The LIBRARY CLUB was organ1zed by the llb arlan Thelr chlef purpose was to read and choose books for he llbrary lt was the1r responslblhty to check and rebmd the old books The RADIO CLUB was organlzed for boys mterested ID bulldmg and operatmg radxos The club dldnt last long but weve heard that the boys really enjoyed bulld mg the1r own speclal crystal sets The HISTORY CLUB was started to promote an ln terest 1n our hlstory They were af 1l1ated wlth the W1s Hlstorlcal Soclety One of the mam lnterests was to gather mformatlon ln the hlstory of the area The GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION has been orgamzed ever s1nce the begmn ng of H HS It glves the glrls a chance to partxclpate 1n a varxety of sports lncludlng All members of the Spanlsh classes were ellglble for membershlp ln the SPANISH CLUB as long as 1n h1gh school The purpose was to further master the Spamsh anguage The SCIENCE CLUB was organized 1n the fall of 1936 It was organlzed to promote the dlfferent phases of sclence for those lnterested The club at one t1me when ln exlstance axded 1n the pubhcatlon 0 the Annual for lt took and developed the pxctures The STATIC STAFF was organlzed IH 1936 as a bl monthly paper It IS our school papir and tells of the happenlngs about the school It 1S now publlshed every SIX wee s The DRAMATIC CLUB was formed by students who partlclpated ln Forens1cs plays etc In thls organlzatlon tudents learn how to speak and express themselves 1n publ1c Thxs club puts on plays for publ1c entertamment Each year there IS a Forenslc Contest Play whlch IS g1v en at varlous places around the commumty The object s to get an A ratmg and to move up the ladder and get to the State Contest The same pattern IS followed or the 1nd1x1dual Forensxc Contests For each year that the students are act1ve ln Forens1cs they recelve an aw rd The flrst year a Certlflcate IS glven the 2nd year a bronze medal the 3rd jear a sllver medal and the -lth a gold medal The CHESS CLUB membershlp was entlrely composed of boys They played 1n a l1ttle 3C Chess Conference and also had an lnter class tournament The HIKING CLUB was composed of 36 act1ve mem bers who enjoyed takmg hlkes The BAND IS an organlzatlon composed of muslcal ly mcllned persons They also have tournaments to par xclpate ln The band plays at many Carnlvals and glV9 speclal concerts durlng the year The CHORUS IS composed of persons who enjoy usmg the1r vocal cords They also partlclpate ln tourna nents and UIVG concerts The TRAVEL CLUB presents movles and talent shows to ratse funds to take a tmp the week preceedmg Easter They have VlSll9d the Great Smokles Mammouth cave and the Ozarks ln the past few years The purpose of the FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA lS to promote better agrlcultural practxces The ROD AND GUN CLUB provldes an opp0flUH1ty for the exchange of Ideas ln conservatzon huntmg and flshmg The FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA creates a better understandmg of home l1fe ln Amerlca as xt s today The LETTERMENS CLUB IS an honorary club for those who have been awarded letters for partlclpatxon ln Athletncs The yeal 15 now 1956 and these are the clubs and the actlvxtxes that have had the1r place 1n Hartland Hlgh i .
