Swwara' Two years before we entered Hartford Public High School, the free nations of the world had laid down their arms, and prayed to God that the peace they had secured would be everlasting. Six years after that armistice, we are again on the threshold of a third international conflagration, which, if ignited, will doubtlessly end in the destruction of mankind. When we began our secondary education, we had before us the goal of securing a well-balanced education. We have achieved it as our minds have matured in the classroom. But we have attained other objectives, which we may not have consciously set before ourselves. We have developed our bodies and sense of fair play in the gymnasium, our personality and poise at social affairs, our leadership and responsibility in extra-curricular activities. Now we must share our acquired assets with others. We must continue to enlighten our minds, to practice fair play, and to assume responsibility and leadership. We must show our gratitude for what Hartford Public High School has given us by giving service to our city, to our state, to our country, and to the world. We must work for peace, that lasting peace that we hoped we had achieved. We must try to reach the misinformed people of our country and of the world, and spread the doctrine of the United Nations. We must practice the prin- ciples of democracy exemplified at Hartford Public High School.
