James Keller reacts to his father's treatment in this scene with Kate Keller. Annie Sullivan, while teaching Helen table manners, had difficulties with Helen's mother. Kate Keller. The Miracle Worker THE MIRACLE WORKER is the engaging story of the re-birth of Helen Keller. Stricken with scarlet fever at the age of eighteen months, becoming totally deaf and blind as a result, she was allowed to wallow for almost six years in ignorance with no concerted at- tempts to reach her or to communicate with her. None, that is, until the arrival of Anne Sullivan, her governess. Blind herself at one time, Annie makes use of her own experience to try to reach Helen. This is the story of the heartbreak and frustration of Helen's early education and her final awakening. A Doctor ...,......, .................. R andy Davis Kate Keller .... ..,.
