cm umm On September 4, 1951, 24 boys and 24 girls came to Harris-Elmore high school for the first time. This was the first time that the Class of 63 met as a group. We were ably started down our 12-year educa- tional adventure by Miss Grace Myers and Mrs . Rose Shultz . In our sec- ond year of school our teachers were Mrs . Arnold and Mrs . Shultz . ln this year the class was saddened by the death of Ted Wood in an automo- bile accident. In our third and fourth years we were guided by Miss Mat- tie Heckman, Mrs . Strohl, and Mrs . Rothert . When we started the fifth grade, we found three new faces in our midst, those of Virginia jacobs, Denny Bennice, and jim Heath. In our fifth and sixth years our teachers were Mrs. Weber, Mrs .Yeasting, and Mrs . james . Our sixth grade year was highlighted by a trip to Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Mu- seum. This trip was financed in part by saving sales tax stamps . In our next year we were very thrilled to be in junior high school and felt very big because we got to change classes like the students in high school. In this year Sharon Walter joined our class . We were treated to a party by the eighth grade in the spring. Our eighth year came and went very quickly. We treated the seventh grade to a party near the end of this year. At last in 1959 we were in high school. We found on the first day that we had six new members in our class, all of whom were from Graytown. These included Ted Bolander, Denny Epling, Karren Helle, Mike Lud- low, Fred Newton, and Susan Schlievert . In order to raise money for the prom that we would put on when we were juniors, we held a dance after a basketball game and also one in the late spring. The latter was to be held on the tennis court, but because of the unco -operative weather, we held it in the auditorium. In our sophomore year Roger Bowyer and janette Wisegiver joined our class. We sponsored two dances to raise money for the prom . Karren I-Ielle held a party for the class during this year. We also chose our class rings. During our junior year, Nancy Barker and Rhoda Garn joined our class. We sponsored dances after a football game and also after a basketball game. We put on our successful play entitled Teen Time in November, After the play, john Waters gave a party for the whole class . Finally, early in May after much hard work, we put on the junior -Senior Prom . Our theme was An Oriental Garden. We were the first class to use the facilities of our new cafeteria for the prom. At the end of the junior year Lucille DeStazio gave a party for the class at her home . just before school started, George Weis gave another party for the class at his home. As we started our senior year, we gained one more new student, Tom Walter . This year was filled with many activities in preparation for graduation. On New Year's Eve, George Weis gave the class a party. On April 26, we gave our senior class play entitled In The Doghouse. On May fourth the juniors honored us with a prom, the theme of which was Roman Holiday. Our Baccalaureate was held on May 26 . Our class had a very enjoyable trip to Cedar Point on May 28 . Our Com- mencement was held on May 31 and we had met for the last time as a class . 20
