How distant that award seemed to Harper- ites when the nationwide Salvage Drive opened. The drive com- menced with Victory Day, during the latter part of October and lasted a month. Soon however, after much toil and sacrifice rendered by the Harper students, factulty, and members of the surrounding com- munity, that dream came true at Harper. Harper won the cham- pionship with a total of 305,688 pounds collected-an average of 57 pounds per student. Miss McDermott, co-ordinator of the drive, and chairman Robert Browning, aided by his committee Rose Marie Frank, James Sch- neider, Sophie Roman, Gus Papas, jack Wehrle, jack Bim Merle and Dorothy Smrt will be remembered as responsible for the leader- ship which helped to make the drive successful. Harper however, is most proud because of having received the highest honor award given by the O.C.D. and W.P.B.-the Blue Eagle, This award was given to only four schools in the United States.
