Mr. Laughlin Says- YOUTH RESPCNDS In times of emergency we must use all of our available facilities. This includes money, machines, material, men and morale. Man power is limited. Youth must grow up and respond to the grave responsibility of making an unstable world adapt itself to the demands of a people seeking their funda- mental rights. Today the rights of the common man are at stake. Technology has brought us in close Contact with each other where we grow more and more dependent each year. The world has grown smaller and smaller, decade after decade, until all peoples of the world know what the others are doing. This year the high school youth of eighteen has been called upon to respond. In order to do this, youth must grow up and mature at an early age. Many will have finished the four year high school work before they are asked to assume this responsibility, four years full of fun and interesting friendships. Today the highfschool means more than ever before. The world is looking for young people who have not only four years of high school training, but for young people who can do new and unusual things. Not many are going to get a chance to get to college. For many the high school will be the end of their institutional training. Our one big idea today in high school is to educate our- selves to take part in the present emergency. Our national leaders are very much interested in having young people finish their high school work and learn many of the things which they will have to do in the present emergency. They are interested in youth who are able to act, and act intelligently. High school youth must grow up into serious minded men and women who will take their places in the world conflict of today and help to establish a better world for the common man. America depends on its high school graduates.
