Harper students serve the school. The hall guard system in Harper is well-worth prais- ing. It does an excellent job of producing an orderly, well-mannered student body. Students sell tickets for various social events, which not only promotes school activities, but gives the seller practical experience. The Harper Highway, a stu- dent publication, appears bi-monthly, the Shield, the school year book, annually. Students make pos- sible the smooth functioning of laboratories, moving picture machines, book room, grade counselors, as well as the principal and assistant principal's oflices. A surpassing demonstration of democratic spirit is manifest through the work of the Student Council, a representative group of the entire number of Q Harperites. ARPER HIGH SCHOOL

Of Service To 0ur Country Foremost in all American minds this year are thoughts of the war. As we realize the various endeavors necessary to victory, we Harper students desired to do our share of service. With the help of the community and spurred on by the various prizes offered we tripled our quota in the Salvage for Victory Drive which lasted until Thanksgiving, and won the Brass, Bronze, and Copper Drive in March. By sacrificing luxuries we bought stamps and bonds steadily all year. The Red Cross, whose existence is imperative, especially in time of war, depends directly on contributions. Vife not only gave money, but also our talent and energy sewing and knitting-cooperation was the keynote, all work- ing together to hasten victory. But all this was little compared with the efforts and the sacrifices of the men engaged in actually fighting the war. As a slight recognition of our debt to them we wish to dedicate this 1945 Shield to the students, graduates, and teachers of Harper who are serving in the Armed Forces of our country.
