I l i S l 1 133315 . . .And Here ls Their Story by Maurice Calloway, RMI and Tommy Tyrrel, GMGI During the early part of our deployment the members of the First Class Lounge got together and decided to make this Christ- mas away from home truly memorable. It was decided that since we would be in Hong Kong it would be nice to invite a handful of kids from the Children's Home to spend Christmas Day on-board with us. Plans were made to make this day a day to remember so each member of the mess donated from 55-S20 dollars to buy gifts and goodies for the kids. The ChapIain's Office in Subic Bay put us in touch with Chaplain Baar from the Children's Home in Hong Kong with whom all the necessary arrangements were made. Christmas decorations were purchased in Subic and the gifts were purchased in Korea and Hong Kong. On Christmas Eve, the lounge looked like Santa's Workshop, with everyone busy wrapping presents and filling stockings and decorating the lounge. You could even hear old Bing Crosby on the stereo. When the children arrived on Christmas Day, it was love at first sight. Once on-board the children were given guided tours of the ship and given a chance to see how we live prior to the afternoon's festivities. After all had had a chance to wander about the ship, we rounded them all up and proceeded to have Christmas Dinner on the mess decks. After dinner the children settled down long enough to enjoy Walt Disney's The Aristo- cats . After the movie, everyone joined in for a joyful sing-a-long of Christmas Carols. The singing was suddenly interrupted by a strange sound on the flight deck which sounded alot like little hoof steps. Hoofsteps and sleighbells for certain, it wasn't an- other moment and in through the door of the lounge came jolly old St. Nick with presents for everyone. At the end of the day it was hard to tell who had had the most fun, the kids or us, but one thing was sure, our day with the children was one which we shall never forget. Thanks to Chaplain Baar who made the whole idea possibleg thanks to Tommy Tyrrell, GMGI who organized everything, thanks to Vince Villa BTI and Maurice Calloway RMI who helped buy presents and finally, thank you to the MS's for all their assistance. -,.,,.-,,
