l M l-if KARAC HI PAKISTA The standards of living and health in KARACHI were very low compared to the previous countries visited on WESTPAC. KARACHI is a densely populated city with many languages spoken and a variety of life styles prac- ticed. The port is a mercantile delight with out- standing bargains on unique items. Pakistan offered historic temples as well as an exciting camel jaunt along the ocean. Walking in downtown KARACHI you could see snake charmers hyp- notizing their deadly pets, and camels pulling heavy carts amidst busy automotive traffic. Despite the shopping extravaganza, the flies were too much and most of us were glad to get UXW.

The islands offered relaxing recreational opportunities for the crew. The crystal clear water and white sandy beaches brought back memories of Hawaii to most of the crewmembers. Deep sea fishing was a highlight for many. The ship's soccer and basketball teams found worthy opponents in the SEYCHELLES UNIVERSITY Teams.
