M 9 f , « B»|JL y g - i i ROME— The Eternal Eity A few of us were fortunate enough to be able to visit Rome while the ship was at Naples. A description of the magnificence and splendor of the city ' s cathedrals and other edifices is beyond the scope of this book, but for many who made this tour it was the high point of the cruise. The tour party also visited many of Rome ' s landmarks other than the religious ones, the most noteworthy of these were the Catacombs and the ancient Coliseum. An attempt was made to be received in audience by Pope Pius XII, but the short time available prevented its real- ization. Old Cothedral. A commemorative archway.
