The stadium and the addition to the school building, both of which are now in the process of construction, are rising symbols of Harding's future. Founded in 1925, with an enrollment of55O students, our school has underf gone rapid evolutionary development until today it embraces a student body of 1450 persons. One of the most significant cornerstones on Harding's pathf way is that of the graduation of the class of 1932. The emergence of that class, consisting of but 32 members, marked Harding's debut as a senior high. Since that year, the classes have increased in size, thereby necesf sitating the expansion which is now being undertaken. With the com' pletion of the present projects, Harding will occupy a place of prominence among the foremost high schools of the state. i9l J 1 1 4.4 i I l l l l l y L I l l l l l w l i L+ SENIOR Francis Stutzman Harold Schedl Carol Aichele Allen Stoltzman Eleanor Strobel Betty jane Early Louise Hohman Dorothy Howard Shirley Everett Allan Leider Patricia Phillips Dorothy Lee Gertrude Briggs Virginia Mayer Jack Leslie Marion Nadeau Dorothy Roll Grace Yoder Daniel Brant Elizabeth Abeler Ruth Behrends Dorothy Johnson Herbert Nadler Herbert Schneider Phyllis Nienaber Petra Rasmussen Gerald Ness Audrey Rasmussen Donald Neumann Margaret Hunn Marcella Manthey HONOR ROLL 1101 Rita Schmit Marcella Olson Ruth Teeters Lucille Jaenecke Bernice Raths Helen White Gladys Kappes Vivian Rabens Edith Putt Roland Hohman John Kromschroeder Marjorie Busse Paton Hylton Avis Haglund Ronald Kirk John Olson Ione Ohristenson Agnes Zeverino Betty Collins Virginia Krahn Shirley jokheck Cora Batson Elizabeth Lundgren Lucille Nippoldt Betty George Simon Selvog Virginia Marron Alice Pribnovv Anne Scanlan Alice Hawkins Fred Zwar ELIZABETH ABELER is president of the Latin Club and treasurer of the National Honor Society . . . was a member of the G.A.A. LORENA WELLISCH Girls' Athletic Director Basketball F ff F -levi magna A FOOTBALL When Coach John Fahey sent out a call for football candidates, 84 boys reported. Coach Fahey then faced the problem of picking the A and B teams. By the beginning of the season, the starting lineups were chosen from the following: Earl Kelly, james Naughtin, Winston Luchau, Owen Frohle, Douglas Wohlberg, Jack Haar, Len Rasmussen, Fred Springer, John Barone, Edward Englund, Joe Renner, Howard Neavin, Dick Rowan, George Cleary, Lloyd Dosh, Gerald Ness, Robert Cronquist, Iver Urtel, Ray Avoles, Steve Lee, Fred Zwar, Eugene Andreotti, Thomas Syf ko, Robert Nord, Gerald McLaughlin, Gene Lewis, Oscar Trooien, Robert Schelen, Marshall Sundberg, and Robert Heinrich. The team in general was very light. Harding's opener, September 6, was spoiled by a 12-O defeat by Cretin. Bissonette was the Raiders main cog, while Syfko and Lee starred for the Maroons. The game was much more even than what the score indicates. In the following game, September 25, the Maroons came back to defeat the Albert Lea eleven, 12fO. Harding, outplayed for three quarters, cut loose in the fourth quarter with all their tricks. Kelly was the outstanding player for the Maroons. Harding played a thriller on September 29. With Mechanics leading 6-O in the fourth quarter, and only 15 seconds left, Lee tossed a pass to Syfko for the touchdown, and Rasmussen calmly placefkicked the extra point, winning 746. The following week, October 13, Harding, despite the loss of several players, came back to down Humboldt 7-O. Lee cleared the way for the Maroons' only score when he intercepted a pass. A plunge by Schelen, after a series of plays, gave the Maroons a 6-O lead. Renner skirted end for the extra point. B FOOTBALL Winning the city title by going through their schedule with only one defeat, Harding's B football team proved very definitely that they were the outstanding team in the loop and a power to be watched in next year's regular conference race. The team proved its power in downing five out of six conference opponents. The only defeat suffered by the Maroons was at the hands of Washington Johnny Stevenson, powerful fullback was undoubtedly the outstanding player on the B squad, with Ossie Trooien and Clinton Holmes not far behind in allfround ability. Of course, there were many others who aided in capturing the B football championship. MA BASKETBALL The Harding quint came through in line style with a fast, quick breaking, sharp shooting team. There were several veterans who returned and led the Maroons to a third place berth with thirteen victories and seven losses, with i'Chink McLaughlin setting the pace for the individual scoring laurels. The squad was led by such stars as Oscar Trooien, Gene Kelly, James Leyden, and Bob Appleton, all of whom will return next year. The team lost no time and most of the games were won by a large margin. .vm INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL Iowa 1C3.gO The Intramural Basketball, or Big Ten , is made up of teams named after the uni' versities playing in the Midwest Big Ten. It was organized to enable the younger talent to see ser' vice, which will aid in making up better MA teams in the future. There are ten teams, most of which have ten players, mostly freshmen. if RIFLE TEAM Missing first place by four points, the Harding Rifle Team finished a close second to Murray this year. Any girl who is interested in sports, who is willing to pay ten cents as dues a semester, and who can attend meetings regularly, is welcome to join G.A.A. The periods are sixth, seventh, and eighth every Monday and Wednesday. Points are given to a girl for each sport she participates in. During the school year there are four major sports: softball, volleyball, soccerball, and basketball. A girl making these teams receives 100 points toward her school letter. Such minor sports as hiking, badminton, bowling, tennis, skating, golf, skiing, bicycling, and swimming are awarded 50 points, if a girl has the required number of hours of each sport. A girl who earns 1,000 points and is a junior or senior receives a Harding letter. Any senior girl earning 1,500 points receives an AllfCity Seal. G.A.A. BOARD There are about thirty members on the board, all regular members of G.A.A. The oiiicers of the G.A.A. are also included in the board. The members are chosen for their executive ability, knowledge of sports, and scholarship. Each girl has charge of a particular sport, and arranges a tournament. Mrs. Lorena Wellisch is the adviser.
