Just as the great thermometer towered above the crowds at the Century of Progress and marked the varying degrees of temperature, so the classes mark the progress of a student's life at Harding High, advancing through the rising degrees, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors. At the outset the Sophomores started at the bottom with all the mixed feelings of insignificance, newness, and awe of the Seniors. As the first impressions of high school wear off, they gradually accustom themselves to the upgrade. The Junior students do not have the inexperience of the Sophomores, nor yet the wisdom of the Seniors, so they are just in the middle of advancement. Their school life con- tains the pleasantness of last year and hopes of the Senior year. The Seniors with possession of knowledge, expectantly look toward the future with the regrets of the past dimmed by the whirl of parties, picnics, exams, and graduation. 14 i
